I have recently been using some Daiwa reels, and I must say I really like the Mag Force V and Z brake control. I sold or traded all my Shimano reels, but kept Abu Revo's as my only other low profile reel. What is everybody else think of the Daiwa brake system? I am going to start looking for a TD Z, or alpha this coming winter.

You should have kept the Shimanos... much better braking system. Sorry, couldn't resist.

I upgraded the Revo SX, SC, STX and Primier with additional magnets, and they work OK, but near as well as the Mag Force. I don't own any reels with the dual braking system so I can't comment on that system. As of right now Daiwa has become my reel of choice.

Buy a TDZ..... U will not go back. It was a family of reels that was 10yrs ahead of it's time. I have everything from itos to the new 2020.... Shimanos set and forget system is ok to. Set and forget suits beginners and those who are sponsored by them. Shimano is a bearing company the reels will always be "buttery smooth".....like I said.... Get a TDZ

Daiwa's braking system is far superior to any other system on the market in my eyes. Including She-man-o.

Try a Daiwa and a Shimano from the same price range side by side. I think you'll be suprised by the Daiwa's performance.B)

I think Daiwa's high end stuff is a little better than Shimano's but Shimano's low to high medium stuff is much better than Daiwa's. I'd take Shimano reels right up to the Daiwa Zillion because I love that reel.

I really like Daiwas mag brake but PREFER shimanos VBS. There's really no comparing them because they work differently but when it comes to externally adjustable magnetic braking, Daiwa gets my pick, I really hate revo brakes, quantum has a highly effective braking system as well. Its really all about you're settings, I can set my curados and Chronarch noticeably looser than my daiwas but yield similar results.

You can set a shimano and never have to touch the brakes when changing baits but a daiwa may require a little tweak but that's why they make a cast control knob. As for which is better, i have 5 curados, a citica, and a Chronarch against 4 sols, an Alpha, a zillion, a pixy, and a fuego, Im kinda torn.

I think you'd really like the Alphas, never fished a TD-Z but I've heard great things

Shimano´s braking system is more user friendly than Daiwa´s and from Daiwa Magforce Z is more user friendly than Magforce V, but, the most sophisticated braking system is ----> your thumb.

I would definitely agree with this.

I too gave up Shimano's when I got better at casting. The disadvantage of the VBS is you have to open the side plate to adjust it. Daiwas Magforce is an advantage there. The Magforce Z is smoother than the V but, the V will outcast the Z, IMO
