Got some jitterbugs to try out tonight, liked what I heard from another thread.  Got some Mustad size 8 treble hooks for replacement, some split rings also.

The salesman at gander said Jitterbug was going out of production?  I picked up about 8 of them for $3.25 a piece...

Anyhow, after I clipped the hooks it looks like a size 6 treble in front..

Seeing as I have no size 6 treble hooks and just the pack of size 8 is it going to completely throw off the action to use an 8 in front and in back?

They are still in production, that was wrong.

I found, as far as hooks go, the Owners that I bought were a heavier mil, and they did effect the speed at which I got that blub, blub action, which is highly successful for me, so I went to VMC's. I have always placed the same size hook, on any bait that I switch out, so I can not say how much of a difference this would make.

I believe the originals ( 5/8 oz. ) are #1, at least the #1's I bought matched in size. I did find that with the added splint ring the action suffered with #1's. I dropped down to #2's and this evening gave them a test.

The action was much better. At least the 5 dinks I caught thought so. ;)

Edit for size.

It's noticeable but won't stop the bait from working.  Heavier hooks, you have to work the bait faster, lighter=slower.  The same size hook really is ideal for operating it at it's optimum speed IMO.

Yes, they will work but look into grabbing some 6's or lighter wire 8's ;)

Also, I actually unscrew the hook mounts and just add epoxy when re-assembling.  No split rings here.

Discontinued run info is false.  It's ok though, having 8 of them and only paying $3.25 ea..... is a GOOD thing.

#8 hooks? You fishing for bluegill or minnows?

the size 8 mustad trebles I got are the exact size of the rear trebles that came on it...

coulda sworn I found them in the top water bass section, but could have been the bluegill section  ;)

You didn't mention the lure size. I've been using #6 on the 3/8 oz. and #4 on the 5/8.

I bought all 3/8 I'm pretty sure unless I'm completely blind it seems they had a #6 in front with a #8 in back.
