I purchased the Abu Garcia Orra SX at Academy a few months back, havent had much opportunity to use it though. I spooled it up with 50lb test PowerPro braid, for fishing heavy cover or for catfishing. I paired it up with a 6 foot 6 Abu Garcia Black Max MH rod which came with a Black Max combo. If anyone has used the Orra SX and has any personal opinion or experience with it, please share! I think it's a great reel but like I said I haven't spent enough time with it to draw up an accurate conclusion. Thanks, and as always, tight lines!

The Orra is a good reel. At $70 less than the Revo SX it's a little heavier and has a couple less bearings. I like the centrifugal brake of the Orra over a mag only design. Keep the levelwind clean and lightly oiled. Watch for gear and/or pawl wear.

I have Orra's, Revo SX's and a Black Max. All are great reels for their respective cost. I use the Orra's for the heavy duty close in work like pitchin a 1.5 oz weight and throwing a heavy swim jig in the nasty crap. I have been beating them up for about a year now with no problems. I never clean them and they live in my rod locker on the boat. Pretty much indestructible so far.

I purchased an orra sx about 2 months ago. Overall a good reel for the money. Only complaint I have (which is common with this reel) was that it was very easy to get birdnests, especially when pitching or making short casts.

I fixed this by taking the reel apart, cleaning, then relubricating. From what i have researched too much grease and oil on these will cause birdnests to happen when they should not.

Now, the reel works excellent with no problems.

Yeah I haven't had it backlash too much except when I'm not payin attention and all of a sudden it starts to make that awful sound  ... BUT, just keep your thumb on it and you'll be good B) .

I have the Orra SX combo that Dick's sporting Good sells for $130. I currently have it spooled with 20lb Berkley Pro Braid. I love the setup. This is my first bait caster and it was a great setup to learn on. I only backlash when I'm not paying attention when the lure hits the water. Obviously this can happen with any bait cast reel. The other times I have bird's nested is when I try to cast too hard and I'm not smooth. It's almost like the rod bends and flings the lure which causes a the line to spool faster than the bait is going out. When I'm smoth, this thing rocks. Nice long cast with hardly any backlashes.
