Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 8, 2011 Global Moderator Posted August 8, 2011 I love pheasant and quail hunting but unless I want to drive 6 hours out to the western part of the state they just aren't around here. I used to dove hunt when I could walk out into the back yard and shoot them, but since we moved the school behind the house gets mad if you shoot a shotgun over the school Quote

I know what you mean. Growing up in AZ and OK, there were quail all over the place. As a kid, I would hunt with my single shot 20 gauge and no dog, and I still killed more quail than I ever have since. Nowadays, I take a roadtrip to the Oklahoma panhandle once a year. It's about a 22 hour drive, but it's worth it to me to get into wild birds. Quote
lk ozark Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 There's a lot of pressure on public ground in the St. Louis area during dove season. A friend and I (both retired LE) would love to get invited some place around St. Charles. We'll even buy lunch. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted August 10, 2011 Super User Posted August 10, 2011 Most of my upland hunting is for Sharptails and Prairie Chickens. I used to run bird dogs but since growing up and getting a real career have found it harder and harder to justify it. It isn't fair to the dogs if I can't run them daily, so I now have one broken down old pointer that used to be a hunting machine that lives in the house with us. Best house dog ever, too. Quote

It's probably a good thing I'm single. Quote
