New Rod 7'3 Vendetta

I got a new Abu Vendetta the other day and was wondering what applications it would best be served for. The rods specs are: 7'3 MH (power) M (action) 1/4oz - 1oz (lure weight) 12 - 20 (line test) I had initially thought of using it for worms and jigs, but missed a couple of fish on the hook up from what I thought was too soft of a tip. That being said, I was thinking this would be a good rod for cranks and jerkbaits.

If anyone has any experience with this rod I'd love to know what you use it for.

The moderate action is more suited for cranks and other trebel hook lures.

Kinda what I was thinking, glad I was on the right track. Thanks for the confirmation Kinda bums me out though since I rarely use the treble baits. lol Maybe a soft jerk bait? Slower action may help the fish get the bait deeper in the mouth before the business end of my hooks are unleashed. lol

I got one of those for x-mas,took it back and got MH @ Gander Mtn. It appears to be a little soft still for texas worming. I would consider getting a heavy.The MH seems to give some when fishing brush.Its hard to explain with these rods.The weight and casting distance outweigh the issue here. I just don't think I have found the right rod yet. Oh well,the search continues!

I use it with braid for jigs and worms and like out a lot. It definatly is a mod actionrod though. Good for horney toads too

The Abu rods, in my opinion, tend to be a little stiffer than the rating.

You might find that you like the MH, M for spinner baits, swim jigs, etc.

My brother bought one (same specs as yours), spooled up with 15lb fluorocarbon. I took it out just to see how well it will perform. Went hunting for some smallies on the river, pitching jigs.

Had one hit and as I set the hook, I noticed how much it loaded up. I ended up loosing the fish.

The rod does feel quite stiff in your hands, but after that one strike...it's suited best for treble hook lures.

I bought the same rod(Vendetta VTC73-6) but found it too stiff for crankin. Kept pulling hooks out of the fish. Better suited for swim baits or jerking IMHO. But I'm also used to having a limber cranking rod.

Do you have the 73-5 or the 73-6?

After using it on a few outings, I have made the decision to make it my soft jerkbait rod. The softness of the tip really lets me get that walk the dog action the way I like it. The way the rod loads up really allows me to cast weightless fluke type baits super far, and it works well for light cranks as well. It really has multipurpose capabilities, but will stick with my Veritas for thick cover flipping.
