Packard Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 The spinning setup I use for wacky rigging is a BPS Extreme M 6'0" rod and a Shimano Sahara 1000FD reel. I currently have Sunline Machinegun Cast Copoly on it in 12#. It's getting really stiff and has a bit of memory so I'd like to change it out. I am also having trouble noticing a bite. I don't know I have a fish until I reel in the slack line. I was thinking of using the mono for backing and putting Seaguar Kanzen on it. If I go in that direction would it be helpful to tie on a Seaguar InvisX leader since I have a little of that left over? Do you guys use mono as backing or some other technique? Also any tips on wacky rigging would be helpful as I just started using it and it has put many bass in the boat. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 12# is a little heavy for a 1000 size reel. I'd peel off 2 1/2 casts worth of line (75 yards +/-) and fill up with 20# braid. Add a fluoro or mono leader if abrasion or clear water are concerns. If you're dead set against braid, try a co-poly or fluoro in 6# - 8#. Quote
zachb34 Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 For wacky rigged I always use braid with a mono backing if your fishing clear water you can also tie a flouro leader. Quote
endless Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Me I'm using 10# Trilene flouro. I have used braid before in 30# Packard PM Sam or Wayne P. Those two has help me allot when came to understanding wacky and they're the ones that got me into wacky. I also had good luck in 8# Suffix Elite moss green I think is their color if not, their green color line! Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted August 7, 2011 Super User Posted August 7, 2011 sufix 832 in 10 or 20 pound. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted August 7, 2011 Super User Posted August 7, 2011 I use 40# Samurai with or without a 20# leader of fluorocarbon. Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 7, 2011 Super User Posted August 7, 2011 Check your reel for its maximum line test. It is 6-pound test for a Sarah 1000. Do not go over 6-pound test unless you can find another line with the same diameter as 6-pound test, such as braid. Check out the rod's paramaters to make sure it can handle 6-pound test. Good luck. Sam, the line size and amount is not a reel rating. It is just information about how much line of typical 6# mono the spool will hold. Nothing more, nothing less. Quote
Quillback Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 I use Seaguar Invisix (8#) when fishing whacky rigged GY Senkos, I let it fall on slack line, weightless. The bites are easy to detect, just have to watch your line like a hawk. Quote
