Do you guys prefer ewg hooks or straight shank hooks? what size for 5" senkos? ive been using ewg bps hooks size 2/0 or 3/0 and sometimes the senko drops like a dart nose end or just doesnt wiggle unless its hooked perfect. was wondering if i changed to straight shank would i lose my hookup ratio and get better action

I've done ewg and worm hook with the same shimmy action fall. I don't think the worm hook would hurt your hookup ratio you just may have to set it a bit harder to push through the senko? Try different stuff out to see what you like best ;)

Try an offset shank round bend in a 3/0 ;)

For a 5" Senko, I tend toward a 4/0 Gammy EWG or the same size from BPS. Lately I have been bank fishing a lot with 4" senko and for them I prefer a 2/0 EWG from BPS. Caught and released a 2 1/2 and 3 on a screaming hot morning here in NC. Felt great!!!!!!!!!!

4/0 ewg for 5"

1/0 Ewg for 4"

I like to keep my hook selection to a minimum.

hey ive been using 4/0 hooks lately and having great hook ups but sometimes the action sucks and ive caught plenty nice quality fish from the bank myself. i mainly use the 5" senko. all my hooks are from bps. very sharp durable hooks.

For 5" Senkos I use 3/0 EWG Gammy hooks and use 20# braid for all soft plastics. Very sensitive and have no hookset problems.

I would watch the gauge of the hook. I love Owner hooks, but the hook is a thicker gauge then the Gammy EWGs I use for Senko fishing. Because of that, I notice a little less "float," if you will with my 5" senkos when I twitch them. Also, I use 5/0 for 5" senkos Texpose.

Good luck!

The Owner Twistlock Light hooks were designed by Gary Yamamoto for fishing Senkos. They work better than any other hook that I've used for fishing Senkos and soft jerkbaits, and I also like to use them for fishing finesse plastics on Carolina Rigs, like Trickworms and soft jerkbaits. They work especially well for those who fish Senkos on spinning tackle. It takes very little effort to drive these hooks home. I use the 4/0 the most.

Very good point, I always forget that I use them specifically for Senkos and Flukes. Whole reason I bought the hooks. The 2/0 is PERFECT for the 4" Senko.
