CAdeltaLipRipper Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Ive been wondering, do rod lockers affect rod life?Every time we pull rods out its just like SCREEEEECH and you have to bend the rods and all that...it just doesn't see too healthy for your rods lol Quote
dmac14 Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Use Stick Jackets, I do not own a boat so I have never actually used a rod locker, but whenever I go as a non boater all the rods in the rod box have stick jackets. As for bending that shouldn't make the slightest difference on rod life. Quote

midnighthrasher Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 I use Rod gloves. Cheap and they protect the rod well Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted August 4, 2011 Super User Posted August 4, 2011 These are what I use. They work fine for rods to 7'1." They are $1.00 more than they were a few years ago when I last bought some, but still a good value IMO. There are covers of all sorts available, including for longer rods. They save much wear and make getting a rod out of the locker much easier. http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops&-x00ae;-Adjustable-Rod-Sock/product/21141/-698902?cmCat=CROSSSELL_THUMBNAIL Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Today's high modulus graphite rods are susceptible to scratches, nicks and dents that can compromise the blank leading to failure. I'm sure rod lockers contribute here to some level. In general it's worthwhile to pay a little extra attention to how we handle our tools. Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Rod covers and neoprene foam reel covers on any combo I transport. Keeps them tangle free and prevents wear when in rough water. Quote
