tmier Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Has anyone ever made cork handles for their reels? I saw a higher end Daiwa with cork handles and fell in love. I can order them online from Japan for $20 a pop but would rather keep my money stateside. Are any rod builders up for the challenge? Quote

tmier Posted August 4, 2011 Author Posted August 4, 2011 You got it! I would love a set for my shimano. You take orders? Quote
figure8racer Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 If u will build them I would also be willing to buy some for my 5 reels. Not sure if all have removeable handles but pretty sure my shimanos do. Quote
tmier Posted August 4, 2011 Author Posted August 4, 2011 I have a curado cu201 and I'm not sure if the handles pop off or I need to drill them. Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted August 4, 2011 Super User Posted August 4, 2011 If they're not removable, then I can't turn knobs for them. If you have to drill the old knob off, then there is no way to re-attach the new one. I need to use the old knob to remove the bushing and press in the new one. This requires the destroying of the original knob. I have a 201BSF, but haven't popped the end caps off to see what's under. Quote
figure8racer Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Could you explain the best way to remove the knobs/find out if they are even removeable? I've wanted vork grips forever but have been to lazy to find a complete new handle with cork grips included. My reel line-up consists of a lews speed spool, curado E7 & E5, and 2 pflueger patriarchs. I would love to get a set of corks for all of them and possibly even the composite cork with design in your pic above. Let me know here or PM me. THanks!!!!! Quote
Super User J Francho Posted August 4, 2011 Super User Posted August 4, 2011 I have two composite knobs turned by shfishinsticks on my CI4's. Awesome. Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted August 5, 2011 Super User Posted August 5, 2011 I'll check my 201BSF this weekend to see if they are removable. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted August 6, 2011 Super User Posted August 6, 2011 Are the Abu reels knobs removable say the sx Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted August 6, 2011 Super User Posted August 6, 2011 Yea but can I get some for my cu201? The 201B knobs are removable, but I think once I strip the original rubber knob off of the bushing, the center cap won't snap back in place. It relies on the rubber of the knob to hold it in place. You would be left with a knob with a hole in the end, exposing the mounting screw. I don't know anything about Abu reels. I only have access to some friends Daiwas and whatever Shimanos I have. Quote
