Super User CWB Posted August 2, 2011 Super User Posted August 2, 2011 I left my 597 on the boat overnight which was tied up to the dock. The next morning there were little white spots on the black casing only, none on the screen. At first I thought a bird had made a strafing run but that would have hit the screen also. Plus the spots are all very small, not a big blotch. I tried wetting my finger and wiping them off and it did help a little, but that is as far as i went as I do not want to damage the unit without knowing how to properly clean it. Any suggestions? Thanks. Quote
Chris W Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 It is probably just some moisture, but get a good cleaner for you graphs. I use a product from Wilson Frazier that is great. http://www.itainttv.com/clearly.php Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted August 2, 2011 Super User Posted August 2, 2011 I always clean my unit with a spray bottle of water/vinegar mix & then wipe with a soft clean t shirt. Also never let any one touch the screen with their fingers. Quote
Super User CWB Posted August 2, 2011 Author Super User Posted August 2, 2011 Thanx guys. Dwight, 50/50 mix and is it safe for the screen? Ken Quote
Super User CWB Posted August 2, 2011 Author Super User Posted August 2, 2011 Just had a friend tell me it might have been from insect repellent. Anyone have any similar experiences? Might explain why the screen wasn't effected. Still need to find a safe way to clean off the case. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted August 4, 2011 Super User Posted August 4, 2011 Ken, have you been taking your "problem" in hand again? My new Lowrance SI gear really turns me on, but not THAT much. Quote
Jim_H Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 If you used insect repellant with Deet, that is the result, found that out the hard way!! Quote

Tpayneful Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 The only approved cleaner for the screen is Windex with Vinegar. I would try that first incase you have overspray and something hits the screen. Quote
