PondBoss Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 I just got a new combo the other day BPS CarbonLite Micro Guide casting rod w/ BPS Tourny Series casting reel. while I was at the store I got a 600yd spool of P-Line 15lb Fluoro Clear. I was out fishing the other day and noticed some line fray about 30ft from my bait. No biggie I fish in a lot of trees and rocks so no worries. Just cut off a few inches above it and retied. Not 10 minutes later, I realized I've got more line fray. The thing of it is it is only in a few random spots for about an inch at a time. Any idea what could be causing this? Did I get a bunk spool of line? Thanks in advance PondBoss Quote
baluga Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 that happens to me once. I noticed that i slipped the line in one of the ring guide bracket instead of thru the ring. Silly me i was rigging without checking if line goes thru the ring guides correctly. Quote
NBR Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Check the rods guides. Use a Q tip. If a guide is defective I am pretty sure BPS will replace the rod. Also check your reels level wind guide. Quote
PondBoss Posted August 2, 2011 Author Posted August 2, 2011 I checked the rod guides and level wind wind a cotton swab. Did the best I could anyways, darn micro guides are tiny. lol Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted August 2, 2011 Super User Posted August 2, 2011 Not trying to be a schmuck, make sure with the micros that all of them have guides. It can be deceptive, I've had them pop out on other rods and not really notice that they're not in there. Quote
PondBoss Posted August 2, 2011 Author Posted August 2, 2011 I found the problem today while out fishing. Set the hook on a fish and the line dug right into one of the guides, as the rod bent it proceeded to snap. A visit to BPS is in my near future. lol Any suggestions for a replacement that is in the same price range? $100 Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Another Carbonlite...they are fine rods for that price, just sounds like you got a bad one. Quote
ripinthem Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 I just got a carbonlite and I hope it doesn't happen to me. I worry about the cheap price, cause you get what you pay for, but dang this rod felt good. Got home and compared it to my GLX's,IMX's, and Cumaras, and the Carbonlite is going to win-out if it performs past the true test. It really feels superior! Hope it lasts. Quote

I found a couple of models that felt good for a rod in that price range. In fact, I'm seriously considering buying the 6'6" Med Hvy Fast combo, but it being superior to those three rods is almost comical. Quote

ripinthem Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 I'm serious. Went out with my kid today, and caught 2 and what can I say....wow! Really excited about this rod. The carbonlite with a core 50, and 20lb Tatsu is just amazing. Worry about how it will hold up, but there's no doubt about the sensitivity of this rod. They are on to something with these microguides. I think the light rod weight, nice tip, and multiple contact points give it an edge over anything I've used(as far as feel and bite detection). Now, will it take my abuse? Thats a good question, but this is definately the best Rod in its price range. Quote
PondBoss Posted August 3, 2011 Author Posted August 3, 2011 I went with the Abu Veritas, caught 2 on it this morning at the course while waiting on my lesson and man it seems like a great rod. Super sensitive and stout. Quote
SausageFingers Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 I went with the Abu Veritas, caught 2 on it this morning at the course while waiting on my lesson and man it seems like a great rod. Super sensitive and stout. I have a love/hate relationship with that rod. For some reason I love it but it snapped on my first outing with it. I had Abu replace it with a Vendetta. Now its starting to make its way back into my head. I want to try another one but Im afraid of it snapping again. Quote

I sorta tested out the durability of the bend by lifting the fish out of the water. Both fish about 2 lb range and it really had a smooth even bend seemed very stable. Quote

Stasher1 Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Are you serious or just joking around ? I've actually heard the same thing from some other folks on this forum and a couple others. I have no experience with GLX's,IMX's, and Cumaras so I can't make any comparisons, but I know the ones I own are just as sensitive (if not more so) than the Crucial and Avids I used to own...at less than 2/3 the price. I didn't want to like them (cheap guides and a foam split-grip), but the performance for the price just can't be denied. I now own five of them along with a Browning HiPower which appears to be the same rod with slightly different trim. Quote

I can't say that I would give up my Cumaras or Loomis' for them, but they are a very fine rod for $100. I've fished them a few times and they don't suck. (Very different rod than the Browning. The Carbonlite is actually a carbon fiber scrim. Carbon behaves much different than graphite in a longitudinal comparison. Graphite has greater compression strength, while carbon has greater tensile strength. Because Carbon has greater tensile strength, it transmits vibration at different frequency and intensity.) The Browning rods are graphite. Quote
hatrix Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 The micro guides are for improved casting distance or feel? Quote
Packard Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 The micro guides are for improved casting distance or feel? Both and a lighter more balanced rod as companies claim. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted August 5, 2011 Super User Posted August 5, 2011 Both and a lighter more balanced rod as companies claim. One is a result of the other. A lighter weight, more well balanced rod offers increased sensitivity. As well, there is more surface area of the line in contact with the guides, the results are greater vibration transmission. Heck, I've got rods that are $400 more than this rod, that will be back-ups to this rod. Crazy, but my hands don't lie, and thats what matters. Quote
