Mouthwash11 Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 I was just wondering what hook sizes yall use for plastics worms, lizards etc Quote
Rant Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 Depends on thickness of the plastic and the gap (each brand is different). Can be anything from 1/0-9/0 but generally it is in the 2/0-4/0 range. Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 2, 2011 Super User Posted August 2, 2011 So does size really matter???? Yes, of course it does even though they say it doesn't. 1/0, 2/0 and 3/0 are my favorite sizes. Heavy and light wire hooks can make a difference so use the ones that will better match your bait and presentation. Weedless hooks can be excellent choices when fishing in heavy structure. Quote
Big Fish Rice Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 I mostly fish 5" plastics and larger, up to 9". I always have 3/0, 4/0 and 5/0. It's a wise decision to have a full arsenal just in case you need to alter your setup. Buy a few packs, and after a few trips, you'll know which hooks you like to use most. 1 Quote
Super User Marty Posted August 3, 2011 Super User Posted August 3, 2011 Make sure the hook's gap is enough to get through the plastic and into the fish's jaw. I recommend a gap at least double the diameter of the plastic. Quote
