I've made a mix of seafood-flavored cat food, corn meal, and oatmeal, and honey in the past. I would make 1.5" balls of the mix, freeze them, and tie them off in a net material made from women's stockings and a twist tie. Somebody told me this was a good channel cat recipe, but I caught mostly carp with it, including some huge ones. FWIW.

Ya'll are gonna laugh, but it works:

Hot dog wieners

1 package of strawberry Kool-Aid

Mix 2 cups of water for the entire package of kool-aid and pour into a plastic zip lock bag.

Chop wieners into 1 inch pieces, put them in the plastic zip lock bag of strawberry koolaid, seal it tight then stick the zip lock bag in the refrigerator for at least 2 days so that the weiners can soak up the koolaid.

Serve when ready :)

Not a dough bait but it works very well for me. One package of stew meat (beef cut to small chunks), one jar of shad gut and plenty of garlic. Just mix them all together. I prefer this over the dough baits cause the fish cant strip it off the hook and they seem to grab and hold longer for me.

Cut several panfish into chunks, and place in a Styrofoam cooler. Add a small tub of crawlers, flour, cornmeal, a tin of dip, and any half-full bottles of old fishing scent you've been meaning to toss. Wrap covered cooler in duct tape, and place on the roof of your garage for a few days. Mix. Enjoy.

Having recently lost a big catfish where I was fishing I was thinking that I may try to go for it again, my question is: what is stopping panfish from nibbling on recipe like this?

thats what i was thinking. for catfish i just use fresh cut sunfish or bluegill. works like a charm and stays on the hook FOREVER.

Tying the bait in small patches of nylon stockings helps. Dipping the bait in cice waterater prior to casting, for a minute or two, can help as well.

Any kind of flour, water, and cornmeal mix would be a good start. Then you begin adding any preferred scent. Garlic powder would be a great start, as well as mixing something like cheese-whiz etc. to give it that cheesy flavor might also help to draw them in. Remember, catfish will eat just about anything you have in your kitchen , and they'll do so happily. Just be creative!
