Hi is it possible to catch the same bass you just caught if you cast back to the same area or do they smarten up for awhile?

Thanks,

LWD

It's not only possible, it's probable, if you fish long enough. Next cast, same day, next day, or next year.... all of these things happen more than most people ever notice.

We used to think it was a big deal, until about the 98th time we saw it. Now it's kind of ho-hum.

It is cool to see the positive effects of C/R in this way though.

Peace,

Fish

I´ve caught a couple of times the same fish a few casts later a few yards from where I caught it the first time, it´s either that fish is dumb as rocks or my presentation is just deadly ( yeah, I´m THAT good ;) )

I think it's always fun to look for specific markings on fish and use them to see if you can land the same fish twice, it's a fun way to keep you trying to get better

I caught the same 4 lb. fish twice from a dock last year, about three hours apart. I was skipping a O-ring wacky-rigged watermelon/red GYCB 5" Senko. The first time, the fish was very aggressive and posted up about 2' from the end of the dock looking for a meal. It blasted the Senko in a swirl right as soon as it stopped skipping, and put up a good fight. The second time, the fish was directly under the shallow end of the dock in the shade in about 9" of water, recuperating. I had to let the Senko sit on the bottom for a few second before the strike, which I didn't even feel, and it put up much less of a fight. I got a laugh and learned from this because it perfectly demonstrated how the bass related to the dock based on it's activity level.

I knew it was the same fish because it had a torn up fin and a sideways 5-6" panfish in it's belly that caused a weird protrusion on one side from the panfishes nose. That's the only time I am 100% sure that I caught the same fish in the same trip. My Dad couldn't believe it.

I also fish this little private lake nearby that gets ZERO pressure. It has a really good little frogging spot, a little creek inlet that flows thru some sparse cattails and milfoil. There's a 2.5 pounder in there that I have caught 4 times this year, all on the same black Phat Frog. That poor fishes' mouth is just wrecked. The first time I caught it, the hook went in the lower jaw right where you would lip it, and it badly broke the jaw. At first, the fish was fat and healthy, but the last time I caught it about two weeks ago, the fish was looking weak and emaciated. I'm not sure how to feel about this. I don't want to kill the fish, but it was fun while it lasted.

I did it twice in the same day with two different fish. How do I know it was 2 different fish? I had just spooled my reels up with Vanish, that's how. lol One fish I actually broke the hook on the hook set. And later my hook and bait were still in his throat. Fish number 2 had my bait and hook in his belly when I cleaned him. Another fish that I cleaned that day also had someone else's hook and lizard in it's stomach. Bass are hunters of opportunity, if it's there and easy pickens, usually it's lunch.

The lake I use to fish as a teen had pike in it not many bass. My best friend and I fish would fish it 2 or 3 times a week during the summer. Early in the morning we would wade the entire lake the deepest hole in 7 to 8 feet it was 20 acres with an island of broom type grass. We would fish topwater baits most days and we'd catch 15 or 20 pike between 15 to 30 inches. I can't count the number of pike I caught unhooked dropped back in the water then thrown topwater bait back by them and catch them again. I also cant count the number of doubles we caught either one on the front hook and one on the rear hook when 2 pike hit the same lure.

I do it a few times a year but it always is on top waters ill catch em throw it back and see it swim back to the spot or close by ill see a little swirel or wake when it spinns around or darts there throw the same frog right on there nose and bam fish on again. Iv also patterend bass on 2 of my honey holes where I will pull up to a piece of cover throw a lure and know 99% without a doubt I'm gonna catch the same bass I caught a week earlier on the same lure. Iv got at least 9 good bass over 4lbs I know there address and will put a jig or devil spear knocking on there door getting bit the first cast every time

When I was little I wondered how many fish I caught repeatedly because I fished a small, semi-private lake 7 days a week all year long. So I started using twist ties to mark my bass and flatheads by putting them through the bottom lip of a bass or the fleshy back fin of the flathead. I caught one 3lb bass 3 times in the same week on 3 different lures and several of the bass would be caught at opposite ends of the lake (we used different colors for different parts of the lake where they were originally caught.) I caught one mid 20lb flathead 5 times that year, not as impressive since I was fishing live bait and that's what they're supposed to eat right? I caught one deformed bass from a pond twice the same day but on opposite ends on the same bait. So I guess you could say it's pretty likely that it will happen to you if you fish enough.

I took my uncle out fishing with me one day and he tossed a plastic worm next to a stump.

He felt a tap, set the hook and snapped his line.

Almost immediately I threw a jig at the same stump and the bait got crushed as soon as it hit

the water. I flipped the little 14" Bass into the boat and my uncle jokingly asked if I saw

a Red Shad Power Worm in the fishes mouth. Right then, the Bass shook his head and a Power Worm

landed in the floor of my boat. I looked at my uncle and said "You mean that Red Shad Power Worm?"

We both just cracked up laughing in amazement. We still talk about that fish sometimes.

A few weeks ago I had a 8# or so catfish break my drop shot off then about 30 min later my buddy caught it with a blue gill on the other side of the pond. It still had my red drop shot hook in its mouth. It was like about 12-1 in the afternoon when all this happened.

I actually have a similar story but with a pike. Long story short, my dad lost his favourite bomber crankbait on a pike one morning on the boat with my brother(I wasn't with them that morning), the next morning the 3 of us go out on the same river I happen to catch that exact same pike on a spinner bait with his bomber crankbait still hanging out of its mouth. Neither of us could believe what just happpened lol. The whole situation just blew our minds, the pike was still attacking and eating with a 3 treble hooked crankbait sticking out of its mouth. Till this day I am still quite amazed at those chances.

I remember fishing a bed in a pond for a small 8" fish and it seemed like he was suidical cause I could catch him daily if I so chose. I remember one day I caught him three times and he even bit a forth time but I didn't have the heart to set the hook again. That little guy was intense. so its definitely possible to catch them multiple times.

One of the videos on here features a lecture where the speaker said bass have a memory of about 15 seconds........ so would seemingly make sense, especially around cover, to be able to have the same fish swim right back to the cover, shake his head once or twice, and then see something that looks good and forget something really strange happened to him about 2 minutes earlier.

How true that is, well that is open to debate..... and could ruin our idea of "pressure" but from a biological perspective, makes good sense.

ive caught the same male 3 and 4 times in a hour when they are gaurding on the bed.

its fun to irratate the bite out of them, land them and let em go back to the bed.

Where 's Fat G at for this topic?? Unless you mean in the same day but take a look at his fishing trip topic he had a while back.

Hope he doesn't mind me using his post but I thought it might relate to the topic!

One day I caught the same 2-2 1/2 lb bass at least twice, but possibly a third time. Each time was the same lure, a baby brush hog on a 1/8oz shakey head, but in a different color.

I caught the same fishfor the 3rd time just this year! its incredible! i know because it has some sort of nasty wound on its right gill plate. looks kinda like a leech got him there but its too big, anyways catching the same fish does happen! and its soo sweet when it does! B)

Ive caught this fish multiple times that has fishing line coming out of its mouth. I dont know how long its been in this throat but it obviously isnt stopping him from murdering baits

I witnessed this on a lake in Idaho during a tournament. Guy in a boat 20-30 yds away lost a toad on a Senko, broke off. After he was finished with his monkey dance on the bow of his boat he re-tied and the very next cast he landed a 8+ LMB and yes it had the previous Senko still hooked in the corner of its mouth!!!

The other week I was fishing a strike king shime and shake when I got broke off. A week later I was throwing the same lure at the same dock, on Lake Lanier mind you, and got a decent hit. Pulled her in and it was the same fish, unless someon else was using #2 finness wide gaps with a floro leader on #15 braid. Pretty wild catch.

I dont think I've ever caught the same fish twice in one day, but I have definitely caught the same fish twice in one summer. I can't prove any, though, except for one, which was actually a bluegill, and this one had a big chunk of it bitten off or dented or something, probably from a turtle. I caught it about a week apart, it was pretty cool. I sight fish a lot, so sometimes i'll see a bass with a white mark on it's top lip from another hook, and sometime's i'll catch them.
