Super User iceintheveins Posted July 1, 2009 Super User Posted July 1, 2009 Gentlemen, what are your frog retrieves? I usually do a very slow twitch retrieve and slow down even more around cover, stopping it a lot. Quote
CRFisher Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 For a floating frog I'll do eveything exept burn them. Rapid hops, long pauses, slight twitches, long pop/hops to get their attention, trying to get them to walk the dog, etc.. I've had the best luck with a few hard, fast hops, then slowing down to twitching and very slowly swimming them. Quote
Dixon Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 I throw them out and bring them back in. That simple. Sometimes vary the speeds. My rage toad was getting crushed lastnight. Just hit all the cover. I especially like bringing it over some sort of tree with alot of branches. Just have strong line. Quote
rubba bubba Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 Fishing a Zoom plastic weightless I: - give it a couple of twitches, pause, twitches, pause - work it top water where I reel it fast enough and shake the rod so it stays above the water and has a small amount of splash The latter is a blast to watch when they hammer it. Shad_Master Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 I was always of the opinion that you had to twitch/hop a frog and this was frustrating for me because I like to fish (too) fast - until one day I was fishing with a guy who caught a frog on a really long cast - after unhooking him and throwing him back, I was surprised to watch him swim fast and steady back to the bank - he looked just like a Horny Toad when being steady retrieved - now I use this on a regular basis with good results. The only exception is when I am throwing up on the slop - then I do the twitch/hop and wait for the explosion. Quote
tritz18 Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 I twitch it then let it sit for a good amount of time. for me 90% of my hits are when the frog is just sitting there Quote
Flippin & Pitchin Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I have fallen in love with frog fishing this year. For me after the frog hits the water I will let it sit there for a few seconds. I have had many fish hit the lure without it even moving. If after 3-4 seconds no hit then I just start giving it some slight twitches back towards me and stopping it every so often depending on when I think it feels right to do so. If I am fishing it through slop I usually pop it once then stop and continue to repeat until it's at my feet. Quote
