What have u done for money when in a pinch for lures. Last night I took back 9.40 in water bottles and I got a baggie full of change to take to coinstar today so I can stock up on jigs for Sunday.

I keep an eye on big sales at the retail stores and watch the flea market for exceptional deals. I know what baits I use the most and I stock up pretty heavy when I find a great deal. I could easily fish for a couple of years without buying another bait. This way I don't find an empty tackle box during lean times. I choose to keep a surplus on hand so when $ are short, I can still go fishing.

If money were that tight I'd probably buy nothing and use what I have on hand, or buy less expensive items to use. I normally use xrap size 10, just happen to find a lure as effective but half the price, so I'm buying fewer xraps now. I use a lot of jig heads 1/4 to 1 oz and trail a white worm off it, I use them for bass, snook and tarpon, BPS markets an identical item called a snook or cobia ball for about 5 bux. Don't for get the bargain bin, can be some good stuff there.

Its not so much that moneys tight its more my wife says iv spent enough this year on bait and she's got the account on lockdown lol. Usually I use my drill pay from the national guard for fishing funds but I haven't had drill in 3 months not gonna go agaibn till september.

I was surprised I made 940 off it and they were all water bottles. My wife did just txt me wanting to go out to dinner so I could go to dicks and gandermountain one last time befor she has the baby Monday.

If you dont have money for lures...do you have money for food? I dont understand this.

First off...you're having a baby! Congrats!!

My wife stopped working when we had our 3rd child, and I don't think I was ever more broke than when we had our 4th. But kids grow up, wives go back to work, and if you're lucky you get a few raises, maybe a promotion, and eventually you won't have to sell plastic bottles to make money for lures.

Have a great and peaceful dinner out with the wife, it may be your last for a while, and in the mean time keep selling those bottles to fund your fishing habit.

Yeah we got money for food and stuff just my wifes anal bout fishing she's sees her dad and nephew do it with cheapo walmart set ups and 1 little box and doesn't see why I need 10 boxs and 10rods that's why the fishing "budget" is my drill pay because that's extra every month that doesn't get countedtowards bills and food and what not. But like I said I haven't had drill in months and need a few jigs for Sunday. My wifes pretty good at monitoring the accounts and paying the bazillion bills it seems like we have and putting money aside for the baby coming Monday at 7am way of c section another fishing and hunting buddy if he's anything like his dad and older brother.

Thanks we plan on being done for atleast 5years that way noahs 7 and this one will be 5 but I have a feeling with me leaving for afghanistan I will end up knocking her up either just befor I leave or soon as I get back because that's my luck something will happen. This one wasn't planned and came on that .1 percent chance

If you wanna get more money out of your coins, don't go to Coinstar.

They take a pretty large percentage of each dollar you put in.

Its like 9% I think at coinstar

Yes coinstar was 9 centes for every dollar I made a $24 even in change plus 5 bucks I had I got 38 bucks for a few jigs not to shaby for recycling and fliping coushins and cleaning my car

We've been so close to a divorce its not even funny but that's a whole other can of worms. Plus its not that I'm hurting for money because she ended up letting me use the card for my stuff after hitting olive garden letting me keep my cash for lunch when out on moves at work. My wife just likes giving me a hard time and seeing what ill do to buy lures or go fishing. Like when I walk out with her lotion to rub her feet I usually don't ask she just knows I'm rubbing her feet cuz I want something.

I have enough friends that fish that I could borrow something if I really needed to. Basically if I don't have money for it and it isn't something that I have to have to survive, then I don't need it that badly. I'd say the worst I've done was buy fishing gear with my credit card knowing I couldn't pay it off the next time a payment was due, nothing like paying extra for something because I have to have it now!

Are you saving for your kids' college educations? How much do you have in a rainy day fund? What does your wife spend on her activities? Money and time is what it takes to go fishing. If you have to scrounge bottles to go fishing your finances seem to be on shaky ground.

Before we had kids, I played golf once a week, and went fishing. When the kids came along, I hardly did either. It's a matter of priorities.

Not to mention, the current economy is not so hot, and it doesn't look good in the long term. Seems like you need to look past the end of your nose and plan for tomorrow rather than living for today.

Unless you are independently wealthy, there are sacrifices that must be made in budgets. There is a vast chasm between needs and wants. The needs should always be at the top of the life priority list. When those are satisfied, both long and short term, then pursue the wants.

A wise old Yankee once told me, "If you want to make a living do something people need. If you want to get rich, make or do something people want." That about sums up human nature.

Go to your bank next time, most of them have a coin counter and they won't charge you if you have an account with them

Wow its not that I'm poor I got plenty in the bank to get by all my bills are paid on time my kids college fund has been started when they were born plus they can use my gi bill I'm not gonna use it. I simply just took back some bottles and change to clean up the house a little and have a little extra for lures sense the money dedicated to fishing dried up sense I haven't had drill not that it mattered because I just used my "spending" money we set aside each paycheck. And my wife spends her money on longaberger baskets and pottery that stuff will blow fishing expensese out of the water anyday 500 bucks for a few plates and bowls to match 300 for a little fruit basket. This post was just a little what ever to see what people do to get a little extra lure money I'm not putting fishing ahead of my family or needs by anymeans bills and the savings account allways comes first that's why I have all budget rods and reels like 50 bucks for the whole set up the only exeption is my revo and veritas I got for christmas.
