Diggy Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Bought this from Wally World today. Wanted to try out a baitcaster without spending an arm and a leg as Im a newbie. I set it up using good old youtube. I put some 15lb braid on it for now. I never used braided line before so now I see I could have used much heavier if I wanted to. I will report back. Its right hand retrieve and Im used to spinning so I think this may workout. I tried some reels at Dicks Sporting Goods and felt comfy with this. Wish me luck Quote
Diggy Posted August 1, 2011 Author Posted August 1, 2011 After finding out that you just dont put braided line on a reel.....and setting it up the right way.....I caught my 1st fish on this today. 1st and only since using it. Ive only used it about 1hr and had about 30 backlashes But I got this Quote
Pinnacle1 Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Congrats on your new combo. Nice fish!! Great job! You can adjust the tension knob on the reel to avoid backlashing. Takes time and practice throwing different baits, sizes/weight etc.. keep after it you're on the right track! Good Fishing! Quote

The Rooster Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 I looked at that combo today at Walmart. The rod is really limber, seems like it might make a good light weight crankbait rod, such as for Bandit 100's and 200's. I like the EVA splitgrip it has and the reel is OK, but I'm not a fan of a casting reel without an aluminum frame. For a moment I considered getting it just to get the rod for what I was mentioning above, and then selling the reel, but after some thought I figured I could just spend that much on a cranking rod I would want, uh, shall we say....more long term. Still though, if you're on a tight budget then this is a way to get a cranking rod to supplement your jig/spinnerbait rod. Even the reel is not bad, it's smooth enough. Quote
