KevO Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Well I ordered the new Chronarch and it came in today. My initial reaction is why did spend $200 on a black and white curado... It does look pretty sweet on my dobyns champion rod though. Even if its nothing more than a black and white curado e I will love it cause I have 4 of them. I haven't spooled it up yet but I suspect I already know what I'm getting into. Hopefully I can break it in this weekend. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 28, 2011 Super User Posted July 28, 2011 Oh...You haven't even fished the reel. I suspect it will become your favorite! Quote
KevO Posted July 28, 2011 Author Posted July 28, 2011 RW I'm sure I will love it just as much as all my other shimanos. It even comes with the cloth shimano bag. Just saying initially it feels exactly like a curado 200e7. Quote

Super User NorcalBassin Posted July 28, 2011 Super User Posted July 28, 2011 Looking forward to hearing whether or not you feel it performs any better. Quote
esoxangler Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Looking forward to a review after you have some time to use it. I too am wondering if you will see any better performance. My knee jerk reaction is that you will see the same as the 200e7, I hope to be proven wrong. Regardless, I am sure it will do what it is intended to do, and you will be happy with it. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 If all was left alone the price of the Curado E7 would have gone up to $200 and after some grumbling it would be taken in stride. You still have the same fine reel with a new name plus the option to stay at or below the prior price point with a reel that is still high quality. Quote
jmed999 Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Why not buy a Curado 200E7...you can find them for $135 nowadays. Quote
KevO Posted July 28, 2011 Author Posted July 28, 2011 Ill give you a review after this weekend I hope. As for where its made TW says made in Japan but I haven't looked at the box. And I didn't buy the curado bc I have 4 of them and I like the colors of the chronarch. And I'm a tackle junkie. Lol Quote

Super User Hooligan Posted July 28, 2011 Super User Posted July 28, 2011 Where are those made? Japan. I have two waiting for me when I get home today. Quote
Super User Raul Posted July 28, 2011 Super User Posted July 28, 2011 You didn´t spend 200 bucks on a black & white Curado, you spent 200 bucks in one of the finest upper mid level reels you can find, Chronarchs no matter what series they belong to are excellent reels, I know because I own several ( from different series ). Quote
The Rooster Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Curious....doesn't the older Chronarch have a tapered line guide where the Curado E7 does not?? I wonder if the new Chronarch has this?? Quote
KevO Posted July 29, 2011 Author Posted July 29, 2011 I'm not sweating it too much bc I thought the curado e was worth more than $179. This chronarch will make is mark just like my 50mg did. I'm a proud member of the posse. I know they wouldnt put out a bad product Quote
Super User South FLA Posted July 29, 2011 Super User Posted July 29, 2011 I almost ordered one for spinnerbait rod, but my logical side took over and bought the Curado E, I love my Chronarch B and 50MGs though SMOOTH AS SILK! Love the storm trooper look ENJOY! Quote
gobig Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 I did not feel enough difference in the chronarch over the currado to justify the extra money. It is also going to be tough to gauge the reel after one weekend. In my experience when it comes to shimano's they take a bit to break in. It will only get better with time. Quote
Hooked_On_Bass Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Where are those made? I was playing with one yesterday at my local shop. Looks great. It is indeed made in Japan. Quote
KevO Posted July 29, 2011 Author Posted July 29, 2011 Looks like the chronarch will see its first action on Guntersville tomorrow. Quote
Scorpio Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 I still think the Chronarch D series was the best reel value Shimano ever offered. It performs just as well as the Core 100 and casts like a rocket. You could find them in mint or like new condition for $200. Quote
KevO Posted July 31, 2011 Author Posted July 31, 2011 Well the 200E saw its first action yesterday but not at Guntersville like I had hoped. I ended up fishing a local tournament and it was more of a cranking day then a jig day. So it didn't see as much action as I had planned. From the few times I did get to use it I will say that it is a little more refined than the curado it so closely resembles. It casts great and is silky smooth on the retrieve. I agree that it will take a few outings to get it fully broken in, but it feels great right out of the box. However, I did have one issue with it. After spooling up friday night I went out in the backyard to make a few casts, but first I had to set the brakes. I opened the side plate set the brake and it would not close and lock. I don't know if it was just missing the groove or just needed to locked and unlocked a few times to break in. It seems to be working fine now. I had to adjust them a couple times yesterday fishing in the 30+ mph winds of a thunderstorm. I can't decide if I should sent it back bc of that or keep it since it works now. Also, it got pretty wet lying in the boat during the rain. I dryed it off when I got home but should I do anything else? I will try to get a better a review for ya'll when I get to use it more, but for now thats is all. Quote
Stasher1 Posted July 31, 2011 Posted July 31, 2011 From the few times I did get to use it I will say that it is a little more refined than the curado it so closely resembles. I'd be willing to bet that the perceived increased refinement is due to it being a brand new reel, and not due to any functional improvements over the Curado 200e. According to Bantam1 (the Shimano rep on TackleTour), the only differences between the two reels are double anodizing on the spool and handle and a new color scheme. It's a black and white Curado 200e, nothing more. Quote
Fat-G Posted July 31, 2011 Posted July 31, 2011 I think that is the word "Chronarch" talking to your head. It's just a Curado. Quote
KevO Posted July 31, 2011 Author Posted July 31, 2011 Yes while the refinement may be because its new, there was a difference to me anyway. Is it worth the extra cash over a curado e? Thats for you to decide. I am still not totally sold, as it has yet to even fight a fish. I'm lucky enough to have money to spend on new things so I do. I could tell you its the greatest reel Shimano ever made or I could tell you its not worth paying $20 for. It's just an opinion. Take it with a grain of salt just like I take anyone else's. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted July 31, 2011 Super User Posted July 31, 2011 Here's the deal, the Curado was going to go up $20 regardless of the name change and design. That's it, plain and simple. There's nothing in the reel that's going to be different, the materials and performance you see will be the same as the Curado E series. The SOLE differences are double anodization on the spool and handle. (And color...) There's no "Justify the extra $20" comparison for the name, if you'd pay $20 more for the Curado then you're fine with the Chronarch. If not, you'd have been buying a Revo or another reel; it's as simple as that. If you can't justify the $199 for a superbly made, machined, and put together reel, well, there's the new Curado for you in the $159.99 price point. If you can't justify that, there's the Citica, if you can't justify that, Zebco might be more your speed. KevO, the reason the sideplate was hard to lock down is you likely had too much spool tension and it wouldn't allow it to seat properly. Regardless of how you "thought" it was set right, unless it was backed out enough that would have been the culprit. It doesn't take much, just a quarter turn of the tension adjustment and it won't let the side catch. Quote
