Dixon Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 The lake I have been going to lately seems to really like lizards. Usually throwing rage or zoom ones. It seems that we are running into a bunch of small bass. My question is most of the time the bite is very weak. Do you guys try to set the hook on that first bite or wait for a little more? It seems like alot of time waiting for them to take it and they dont. Just curious. Thinking about trying to set the hook a little faster. Quote
D4u2s0t Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 are you sure it's bass biting? smally sunny LOVE the arms and legs, and could be what you're feeling. Quote
Dixon Posted June 29, 2009 Author Posted June 29, 2009 Pretty sure its bass. could be some bluegills . thats about it. Quote
Super User CWB Posted June 29, 2009 Super User Posted June 29, 2009 Bass bite is usually a thump or your line jumps and starts moving off. Bluegill will grab it a try to rip a leg or the tail off hence the tap tap tap feeling. Big bass often pick it up and you don't know until something feels heavy or wrong. When in doubt, hit 'em. could lose an arm or tail to a gill but that's the game. Quote
Big-O Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Hey Dixon, Put some JJ's chartreuse on the tip of the tail, this will intensify the bite. Big O www.ragetail.com Quote
aarogb Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 I usually wait until I see my line moving before setting the hook. Quote
Super User Catt Posted June 30, 2009 Super User Posted June 30, 2009 Bass do not have hands so tell me again what you waiting for? This is the way Shaw Grigsby put it to me, its call the three tap theory. The first tap the bass has inhaled your bait The second tap the bass has exhaled your bait The third tap I'm tapping you on the shoulder asking you why you didn't set hook! Drop the rod, reel the slack, & set the hook Quote
Dixon Posted June 30, 2009 Author Posted June 30, 2009 Catt thats pretty good stuff. Funny as well. Quote
Big-O Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Big O I cant use JJs magic for certain reasons. Cant elaborate on this site. Get me in trouble. lol Guess I will start catching some bluegills. Then use garlic Spike It but don't leave the plastic in the dip but split second because it is extremely caustic to the plastic and hampers action and texture Big O www.ragetail.com Quote
Dixon Posted June 30, 2009 Author Posted June 30, 2009 Cant use that either Big-O. Have a deal with another scent company. Quote
Super User CWB Posted June 30, 2009 Super User Posted June 30, 2009 Old JJ himself put it best. That tap you feel wasn't the bass grabbing the bait to put it in his pocket for later. Slam him! Quote
Dixon Posted June 30, 2009 Author Posted June 30, 2009 Will do CWB. Gonna start hook setting like im on steriods. Quote
