Super User Grey Wolf Posted July 27, 2011 Super User Posted July 27, 2011 Your DNR will probably have a stocked childrens pond that your kids will catch a lot of fish , bass included. District four-----(740)589-9996 Quote
joshholmes Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 well from what i could understand of that, you should be fine with worms Quote
fishingkidPA Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 small roostertails are always fun for little kids. they always get to cast and reel.they can catch some sunfish, crappie, and bass off of those. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted July 28, 2011 Super User Posted July 28, 2011 Worms, hotdogs, minnows. Try using circle hooks. They kind of set themselves when being reeled in. Tough to keep a 4 year olds attention. Might be tough taking him out on the new boat for more than a couple hours. You might be better from shore, pack a lunch and bring a bat and ball or something in case he gets bored. Quote
VolFan Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Worm and bobber someplace with lots of fish, small is fine. Watching that bobber go seems to keep them interested. Special "fishing" snacks ( i like twinkies and Mt Dew, we're not doing it for our health) to keep them jazzed, and don't get upset if they're more intersted in chasing a frog. Quote
Stasher1 Posted July 31, 2011 Posted July 31, 2011 One more thing to remember- Leave YOUR rods and reels at home. It's all about the little one having a good time. You'll be spending the majority of your time replacing worms, so you won't get to make more than a couple casts anyway. ETA: I like to use snap swivels and snelled leaders when taking the little ones out fishing. Kida that young are typically a little slow setting the hook, so a bunch of them will swallow the hook. When that happens I just snip the line and replace the leader. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted July 31, 2011 Super User Posted July 31, 2011 I started my daughters out on bobbers with small circle hooks and minnows or shiners for bait. Just don't bring any rods for yourself and let them fish. You'll find that it's just as much fun helping them catch fish as it is for you to catch fish. Bring your camera. Quote
kms399 Posted July 31, 2011 Posted July 31, 2011 I took my kids out this morning, they are 5 and 2. we started of with worms and a bobber and caught fish till they got bored, then I broke out my rod and tried to catch something bigger while they played around in the boat trying to grab weeds and playing with some of the sunnies we caught (when we catch sunnies I put them in a small cooler filled with water and let the kids mess with them before we throw them back) after they get bored i break out the snacks and I keep fishing, I got in around 45 minutes of bass fishing, then we went and caught a bunch more sunnies. in all we were out for 4 hours, the kids had a blast and they couldn't wait to tell mom about all the fish they caught. the first few times we went out I didn't get to fish at all, it was still to new but the more often we go the kids are able to entertain them selves and whenever I catch a bigger fish I give my son the rod and let him reel it in. this morning I asked them what we should do and both yelled lets go fishing! I love it, it is totally worth all the tangled lines. Quote
heyitskirby Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 Remembering the way I was taught as a kid. As they get older...keep instilling in them that the fish can hear you when they talk....that way they stay quiet. I tried to teach my wife this, but she knows better. Quote
