I fish in a weeded lake thats semi shallow and it drains into a bigger lake thats deeper. I fish by the dam on both lakes. Whats a good weight to fish a 10" worm in the weeded lake and a good weight to fish the worm in the deeper area where the dam is. I caught a 4lber today in the deeper area. Usually have a weight bigger than the smallest bullet weight and a 4/0 or 5/0 hook. Texas rigged by the way. Am I better with a lighter weight or stick with the one I use already? and what are some good brand worms and colors this time of year. Ive noticed bigger worms = bigger fish.

Rage Tail Thumper and Anaconda, Red Shad and Blue Flake (purple).

I fish them both with 1/4- 1/2 oz tungsten weights and Moaner

I use 3/8th and 1/16th. The 3/8 when I'm fishing a larger bait or I want it to sink quicker. The 1/16 if I want a slower fall. As far as for your situation. Maybe something heavy like Roadwarrior mentioned so that way you can punch through those weeds.

Mann's Jelly worms are stellar. Powerbait. Lake Fork.

And though it's not a big worm or bait. But the baby brush hog has caught me some fat girls.

Good luck

You had to bring up the 10' Anaconda. I am kicking myself for I bought a pack of them in the plum color and they had been sitting in my tackle bag since they first came out. I figured the thing is so huge that its bigger then the bass here in IL,LOL so I was saving them for a trip to Texas. For kicks though, fishing's been slow here, so I tried them last weekend and caught one fish after the other on them. The action on that tail just rocks.

To bad it was the only bag I had of them for I could have stayed there at the pond for a week just fishing nothing but the Anaconda and catching fish one after the other the whole week. I went threw that bag fast. Gots to get more of them puppy's and quick! I fished them with braid, a 5/0 Gammy Super Line Hook and a 1/4 tungsten weight and had a blast. Caught a few nice ones and some that where not much bigger then the worm, as shown in the picture.

These arent suggestions, just what I currently use, take it for what its worth.

Weights:

With big worms, I like to use nothing larger than a 3/8 and will usually use a 3/16 or 1/4. Don't be afraid to go weightless as well, its a deadly presentation if you have the patience.

Hook Size:

4/0 on Ol' Monster

5/0 or 6/0 on Anaconda

The Anaconda, Manns, V&M, etc are all good, but the ZOOM you are using is fantastic as well. If you are catching fish with it, dont change it until

You might be surprised to see how much of a difference the right amount of weight can make in getting a reaction bite. Go heavy in the deeper water, and see what happens. Sometimes they want a slow falling bait, but more often than not, especially with big old 10" stuff, they will just kill a quickly falling worm. My Favorite big worm is the Anaconda, but a very close second would be the Thumper. Until just last year, I always went with the theory, go as light as I could get away with, but then on a somewhat windy day, fishing 18' of water on a hump, I went over the top with the weight, and pegged a 3/4oz Tungsten weight to my Thumper. That thing fell like a rock, and I was catching more bass than I ever did on that bait.

Have had some Illinois luck in the heat of the summer using 8" Jelly worms or 10" Power worms as trailers on 1/2 and 3/4oz grass jigs. Not really sure if they ever get to the bottom before getting mauled.
