shimmy Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 As the title states, just wanted to hear some good advice on rods with braid while jig fishing, so; what rod do you use with braid when jig fishing (not pitching and flipping). Need to get a new one and wanted some advice from experience. Quote
Super User webertime Posted July 26, 2011 Super User Posted July 26, 2011 Lamiglas 734C (7'3" Medium) and Shimano Compre 6'10" MH XF have both worked well for me. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted July 26, 2011 Super User Posted July 26, 2011 Are you in the market for a spinning rod or baitcasting rod? Quote

jignfule Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 G. Loomis MBR 844c GLX a GREAT jig rod. I love it. Quote
TourPT Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 G. Loomis MBR 844c GLX a GREAT jig rod. I love it. Ditto except I actually like the IMX version, same model number, better for jigging. Always afraid I am going to break the GLX model for some reason while jigging. I also really like the older Quantum Tour PT 6'10 Heavy action rod for the real heavy and thick stuff, just has a bit more power to get them out quicker, but they changed the rod this year, made with cheaper parts now. LuckyHandsINC. Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 I use a 7'2 cumara MH/fast rod for casting and dragging 1/2 oz football heads and love it. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted July 27, 2011 Super User Posted July 27, 2011 Lets see, my two primary jig rods are a Cumara 7-2 Medium Xfast for 1/4-3/8 and a Loomis NRX 854. I also fish the 7-2MH Xfast and the NRX 852 and 853 a lot as well. That said, I don't fish jigs with braid at all, ever. I have braid on one flipping rod, and one frog rod. That's it. In every other case of fishing a jig, I use Tatsu in 15 or 20. Quote
piscicidal Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 I like my Dobyns 734 for fishing jigs. I LOVE my Dobyns 805C for fishing jigs. Quote
shimmy Posted July 28, 2011 Author Posted July 28, 2011 Thanks guys. I am in the market for getting another jig rod next soon and this helps a lot to hear experience and what works. Now, the hard part will be narrowing it down. At least i know my confines now. Quote
Flywatersmallie Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Dobyns 704 or 735, depending on the weight of jig Quote
