Kyle Brod Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 This is my 2nd rod/reel, because i just bought a cheap one from wal-mart to start out. It broke, of course, so i went looking for a better one, for a good price. I looked around and Shakespeare's ugly stik had high ratings and was cheap, to i got that for a rod. I went down to a bass pro shop and the guy reccomended me the pflueger president. It has a 10 bearing system, and overall looks really nice and i got it for just about $60. Do you think its a good setup? Quote
Senkoman12 Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 though the ugly stick isnt the most senstaive it will definantly catch fish. dont get disouraged it will be fine. the president is a very solid reel and will be a great reel. sounds like a nice solid setup that should work for you just fine Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted July 26, 2011 Super User Posted July 26, 2011 Decent reel ,rod sucks though. JMO Quote
jignfule Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 The reel is one of the best values on the market. Save up for a new rod. Quote

PondBoss Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 If you catch fish, then it's a good combo. A lot of equipment can be attributed to the Indian and not the arrow. Quote
Kyle Brod Posted July 27, 2011 Author Posted July 27, 2011 well the ugly stik has high reviews, and its durable, so im not sure what could go wrong with it. Its not like im shark fishing. Quote
OHIO Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 well the ugly stik has high reviews, and its durable, so im not sure what could go wrong with it. Its not like im shark fishing. The sensitivity is awful. Quote
Packard Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 well the ugly stik has high reviews, and its durable, so im not sure what could go wrong with it. Its not like im shark fishing. It's a good $30 rod. But unless you are topwater fishing with it, you need sensitivity or you will miss soft bites. Quote
Kyle Brod Posted July 27, 2011 Author Posted July 27, 2011 well i really do topwater fish, i use the rubber worms/grubs, and cast out and start slowly bringing it in. and i mostly depend on the fish hooking itself, i dont think i've ever set a hook. well thanks everyone for the replies. It's a good $30 rod. But unless you are topwater fishing with it, you need sensitivity or you will miss soft bites. Quote

Its not like im shark fishing. Nothing is going to go wrong with your ugly stik , it's almost unbreakabele and it's ok for people who aren't into bass fishing too seriously. It really is at the bottom of the barrel for bass fishing but thats all some people need. Quote
