hookingem Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 Does anyone on here enjoy running? I love fishing by myself because I often feel at peace and at one with nature, and on a long run in the woods I feel this same serenity. Any other runners on the forum? Quote
preach4bass Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 I'm a runner! There's nothing like a peaceful early morning run before the world gets going. Quote
hookingem Posted July 26, 2011 Author Posted July 26, 2011 Yeah I am a morning person I'm up by 6 dang near everyday to run or fish! do you do any races? I'm training for a sub 1:30 half marathon right now. Quote
preach4bass Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 I run a few 5Ks, and have entertained the idea of a half, but would be coming in about half an hour after you finished your 1:30! Quote
hookingem Posted July 26, 2011 Author Posted July 26, 2011 I was blessed with long legs and I just like to run! Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted July 26, 2011 Super User Posted July 26, 2011 No need to run. I'm fortunate enough to have a car. And if that breaks down then I have a bicycle. And if that breaks down then I guess I ain't going no where. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted July 26, 2011 Super User Posted July 26, 2011 Does running from my couch to the fridge during a commercial break count? Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted July 26, 2011 Super User Posted July 26, 2011 Does running from my couch to the fridge during a commercial break count? Of course it counts. But, why are YOU running? Aren't you married? Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted July 26, 2011 Super User Posted July 26, 2011 Of course it counts. But, why are YOU running? Aren't you married? No sir! I'm staying single as long as possible. Now, if I find a woman that likes to fish and watch football or watch kids while I fish..... Then things may be different. Quote
Oscar O. Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 I prefer getting my running through sports, but in the off times it keeps me in condition. Always fun to run with your favorite music on, I don't get as tired and helps me get more out my runs. Quote
Super User Sam Posted July 26, 2011 Super User Posted July 26, 2011 Learned to hate running when in the Army and going through Officer Training School. We had to get up at 5AM and run a mile in our fatiges and combat boots while we changed short songs, some clean and some dirty. Continued to run for weight control and good health until my knees went out from old football injuries. You young guns go out and run and have a good time. Us old timers will sit back and cheer you on!!!! Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted July 26, 2011 Super User Posted July 26, 2011 I used to love to run now I hate it with a passion ever sense I got married it seems like my will to do anything but fish has gone and disapeared. I used to run a 5 flat in the mile during hs my best 2 mile for the army is a 13:59. Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted July 26, 2011 Super User Posted July 26, 2011 If I'm being chased I have been known to run. Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted July 26, 2011 Super User Posted July 26, 2011 I used to run in my 30's thru 40's before I started to have back problems. I even ran the Chicago marathon in 1984 the year Steve Jones set a new word record in 2 hrs-8.05 minutes. It took me 4 hours. He was in the shower after setting the record while I was still on the course looking at another 13 miles to go. Quote

VolFan Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 I like to run. I don't generally do anything over a 10K. I don't like DC much, but running on the Mall and around the Tidal Basin as the sun is coming up is a pretty neat experience. I've been wearing the Vibram Five Fingers for about 8 months now and really like them. They've immensely improved my knee and ankle pain, even running on asphalt and concrete. And I actually bought them to fish in! Quote
lynyrdsky1 Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 I'm a poster child of running does help you get in shape. Because of Cross Country last year I went from 260 in April to 180 in Novemeber. I went from running a 30 5K to a 21 5K and i owe this all to my team and coach who never gave up on me even after I screwed up a few times. I do not run cross country anymore but it gave me a good enough base to help get where I am now.I am now 205 but I am in better shape then I was in when I was at 180. I may weigh a little bit heavier than I was but it's mostly muscle now. Benching 225, squating 300, and power cleaning 200, running a 5.1 40 yard dash and I started working out back in Feburary. All I can say is I'm happy where I am at now and I really owe it to running. Quote
hookingem Posted July 27, 2011 Author Posted July 27, 2011 Thats awesome man I am 6'2 and weigh 158 so you would probably destroy me, but I ran a 19 minute 5k in route to a 40 flat 10k. Quote
Scorcher214 Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Aaaaahhhh running. I ran quite a bit in lacrosse. And now I need to share a story about running I was staying in a campground (not so much camping, but ya bring your RVs and campers and the lot) and they had a little pond maybe about 1-1.5 acres in size with lots of dink bass. I was catching a bunch of little guys and it was fun, but then the rain started up real good and I got to walking back. I decided to take a shortcut along a trail instead of the usual route. Along the trail, a BIG brown mass walks out of the bushes. I didn't have my glasses on and it was storming pretty good, so I thought it looked like a doe. Nope. Big rottweiler. I stopped dead in my tracks and backed up slowly. Then it barked and started coming after me. I HAULED ALL 230lbs of my arse (along with my rod and tackle box) back to my camper faster than Usein Bolt! Quote
Super User Sam Posted July 27, 2011 Super User Posted July 27, 2011 Did you know that a healthy pig can run a mile in 7.5 minutes? When fishing a college club tournament mention this to your partner so he will think of his girlfriend and mess up his concentration so you can outfish him. Quote
WanderLust Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 LOL @ Sam. Running in my anti-anxiety medication. I'm 6' 245 lbs currently but spent 4 years in The Corps so it comes natural. My current unicorn is the 5 mile course by my house which includes a 1.2 mile climb out of hell. Quote

Good job thats awsome man. I'm 6'3 by the way, 180 wouldve of been a good weight if I was still running XC but I need to bulk up for football. Quote
Other. Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 I like to do short sprints on the hard trails in the woods. Except this time of the year. To many spider webs. I hate running into those things... Quote
