jmed999 Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 Hey Guys and Gals! I’m kinda new to bass fishing so I’m in the learning phase. I really like the Duckett rods. I mainly fish on an 8 acre pond here in SC. Most of what I catch are 1 pounders but the pond does have some 10 pounders in it. I caught a 6 pounder a couple weeks ago. I’m trying to get a rod set up for each lure I have the most luck with, ie. White super fluke, ¾ oz super spook. So here are my questions… -For the super fluke rod/reel setup: What Duckett rod should I use? What reel ratio is best for this lure? What fishing line should I use (ie. Mono 12 pound, flouro 14 pound, braided 6 pound, etc)? -For the super Spook top water lure rod/reel setup: What Duckett rod should I use? What reel ratio is best for this lure? What fishing line should I use (ie. Mono 12 pound, flouro 14 pound, braided 6 pound, etc)? Thanks and if I have left out some important detail please let me know. Quote
Super User Marty Posted July 26, 2011 Super User Posted July 26, 2011 I don't know why you haven't yet received a response, but I can speculate that the questions could be differently worded. For example, many, if not most, may not be familiar with Duckett rods. Perhaps you could ask what rod length, power and action are recommended for such-and-such lure, then you can pick the specific Duckett rod that fits the recommendation. Keep in mind that there is no "best" gear ratio, line and the like. There is a lot of latitude and personal preference plays a huge role in equipment selection. Good luck. I hope you get some useful information. Quote
PondBoss Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 My guess (and it's only a guess) would be something in the 7' MH fast action area. As far as line goes mono for the Zara, and personally I use Fluoro for my Flukes. (12-14 for each) A typical 6.3:1 reel should be more than adequate for these presentations. Quote
kms399 Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 I may be weird but use flukes almost strictly with spinning gear, reason being that for me I am skipping them under docks and tree's most of the time. I use a 6'6 med/heavy spinning rod and 20# suffix braid. I could probably do a bit better with a medium rod because of the light weight of the lure but I like the power of the med/heavy to pull the fish out from under the docks before they get wrapped on the dock poles. jmed999 Posted July 26, 2011 Author Posted July 26, 2011 Let me rephrase the question please. -For the super fluke rod/reel setup: What rod length, power and action should I use? What reel ratio is best for this lure? What fishing line should I use (ie. Mono 12 pound, flouro 14 pound, braided 6 pound, etc)? -For the super Spook top water lure rod/reel setup: What rod length, power and action should I use? What reel ratio is best for this lure? What fishing line should I use (ie. Mono 12 pound, flouro 14 pound, braided 6 pound, etc)? I hope these are easy questions. Thanks in advance guys! Quote
kms399 Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 and I think every bass fisherman should have a 7' med/heavy fast casting rod and a 6.2:1 gear ratio or so for a reel. this is one of the most versatile setups for bass fishing. great for spinnerbaits, t-rigged plastics, moderate frog work, jigs, lighter carolina rigs even deep cranks. LuckyHandsINC. Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 I also use spinning gear exclusively for flukes. It just feels right. I use a 6'6 med/xfast veritas with a pflueger patriarch and eight pound mono. I would definitely recommend spinning gear for the flukes. Quote
