Hit Port Bay on Saturday with an my Friend Eric. Eric and I have known each other since cub scouts, his mom was the den mother. One weekend, the scouts came to our cottage for some fishing and canoeing. Eric really liked the fishing, but didn't have any tackle. I guess I gave him a small box of tackle (I don't actually remember this) and a pole and told him to keep it. That stuff is long gone, but today, Eric owns a fly fishing rod and reel company, Wild Water Fly Fishing Company. I suppose in some small way, that day planted the seeds. That was more than 30 years ago. So, we decided it was only fitting to fish Port Bay.

We had a ball. Fishing was tough, but we ground them out. I had Eric use wacky jig flick shake worms and a Lucky Craft Flat Mini DR. I alternated between that crank, a CB20, a 1/2 oz. jig 'n Super Chunk, and a t-rigged Ragetail Craw. The best fish all came on that Flat Mini DR.

It was just great to spend time with Eric.

Next up, City Dump with Big Al. We started late, dropped in about 2:30. No pressure, I figured we could goof off, jump cabin Cruiser wakes, go hide behind the islands, and check out the bikini girls, father and son stuff, LOL.

We caught some fish, too. I lost a really nice fish at the boat, scraped up with a Lucky Craft CB20. I'm really learning to appreciate this bait in the 13-17' depths. It has great deflection characteristics, seems to shed coontail with ease, and man I haven't caught a single dink on it. It ranks up there with the Slim Shad as "useful tools."

Al worked the wacky jig and Senko, and a Flat Mini DR. He actually out fished me,both numbers and weight, and I was trying, LOL. One of Al's fish:

We made a quick run to the lake, to watch the sunset before heading home. Another great day in the books.

What better way to spend the day. It's nice to see other folk having a good time.
