hookingem Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 How does this little green fish make one so happy? I worked from 10-5 at the tackle shop then 5-10 at the Italian restaurant today, and all I thought about all day was how tomorrow I was going to get to fish my favorite ponds. I never once complained about the work load or how long of a day it was. I was simply just focused on getting out tomorrow and catching a few quality fish. I really don't even understand why I love it so much, but still even after catching multiple nice fish I shake so bad I can hardly retie after landing a 4+. I hope this drive I currently have instilled in me never ceases! Tomorrow when that alarms squaks at 5:30 i'll be so siked to roll out of bed! Does anyone else use fishing as their motivation? P.S. I got a new video Camera, and tripod so be on the look out for some videos! Maybe some froggin' 1 Quote
Red Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 The thought of fishing on the weekends is what gets me through the work week. Sometimes I can't wait and get a couple hours in after work during the week!! I know the feeling for sure. Cliff Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted July 25, 2011 Super User Posted July 25, 2011 LOL, I know the feeling I used to skip school to fish Quote
Fat-G Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 LOL, I know the feeling I used to skip school to fish I still do! Quote
Shad_Master Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 I once had the discussion wth an avid golfer. I told him when you play golf the hole doesn't move and it is marked with a flag. Try hitting it when you can't see it and it moves all the time. Quote
Super User Sam Posted July 25, 2011 Super User Posted July 25, 2011 It is the challenge and reward. Plus the fact it is something you can do by yourself and the success or failure is all yours. Fishing is a challenge - one without teachers, grades, tests, reports, parents, friends, girlfriends. It is you against an animal with the brain the size of a pea. Fishing has no boundaries nor set rules. And if you break one of your personal rules and do somethng totally opposite of what you were told or you know you should do or not do you will not get into trouble. You can plan and execute your attack. You can start and finish when you want. You can rest for a few minutes or continue fishing all day. Whatever you do is OK. Fishing is a wonderful diversion to real life. You just have to make sure you do not let it take over your life and become an obsession. Remember...School Work is #1 always followed by fishing, girls, cars, clothes, work, etc. 1 Quote
brushhoggin Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 i'm the same way. it actually can be a bad thing for me cause i set my alarm for 4:15 on fishing days limiting my sleeping time and on top of that, i can't fall asleep due to the excitement. so i always end up getting like 2.5 hours of sleep. Fifteen Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 I used to feel the same way about fishing but then everyday life seem to take precedent. Work, kids, chores, kids, ect.....I still enjoy it when I get out which has not been much in the last few years. Gonna try to get out this weekend and hopefully will have pictures to share. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 26, 2011 Super User Posted July 26, 2011 I'm both an avid fisherman and golfer, with the emphasis on fishing the last few years. Golf courses don't open at 4 am and that's the time I like to start fishing. I don't think it's fair to pit one activity against another as to what's more challenging, most likely one's own passion appears to be more difficult. If on a golf forum, fisherman would get little respect as to what's more challenging, and tennis players would be snubbing golfers. Fly fishermen think they are the purists and the rest are just wannabees, personally I'm the only one I know that bass fishes, all my friends are strictly saltwater and think freshwater is for drinking. I'll keep my sentiments to myself as far as what's challenging and what isn't. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted July 26, 2011 Super User Posted July 26, 2011 It's really about the priorities of life , fishing is down the list a litte for me but if fishing is your #1 priority , have at it. Quote
Hyrule Bass Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 i always shake for a little when i catch a nice fish too, its like an adrenaline rush, its pure excitement for me. youre talking about waiting a day before you can get out, i can understand the excitement there. imagine how i feel when i havent been fishing once since the week of 4th of july. work and other things have just been too busy for me, im dying to get out. Hooked_On_Bass Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 I feel you hookingem. Sometimes I think about the money I spend chasing them as well. It's quite funny. Quote
hookingem Posted July 28, 2011 Author Posted July 28, 2011 The money we spend on this fish is INSANE. I always say to myself I bet I could catch just as many fish with a cheap ugly stick combo, but yet I have 7 Cumara's.... From the famous words of my mom I though fishing was a "cheap" hobby. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted July 29, 2011 Super User Posted July 29, 2011 My wife can't figure it out either. It's a hobby and an addiction....what more can we say? Quote
eagles Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 I'm 16 and I don't even have a job yet but when i get 5 bucks I'm at Dick's buying another bag of Zoom plastics.. lol I can't help it, it's just the type of thing that idc how much money I spend, it's always fun. and I LOVE soft plastics, girlfriend always asks me why I love fishing so much and I tell her b/c it's fishing I could get 2 hrs of sleep, get up at 4 am and fish 14 hrs.... and not catch a thing and want to do it all again the next day. Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 29, 2011 Global Moderator Posted July 29, 2011 Fishing has always been my passion and I suspect it always will be. It's not an addiction, addictions are bad things people try to quit, I'm not going to even attempt to quit fishing because I couldn't do it. I love the challenge it brings. The excitment when I figure them out that day or learn something new. The fun I have with my family and my friends or teaching someone new to the sport. I love how there are almost no boundaries in what you can do to be successful from day to day. Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 29, 2011 Super User Posted July 29, 2011 Addiction may be a harsh term for fishing but I don't think obsession is. Spending $ on fishing that one can't afford can be as harmful as any addiction, does it make a difference what you spend your money on to leave you broke, the rent is still due. An addiction or obsession that takes you away far too much from your family can be very unhealthy as well. To paraphrase what is said on Francho's signature line,,,,,,,,,,,,,most anything in moderation is ok, being excessive isn't.. 1 Quote

I'm gonna have to agree here.....It is more of an obsession.I'll rephrase my word next time.Besides obsession does sound better than the word addiction to be quite honest now that I think of it.
