Brand0n Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 I fish a lake here and its full of thick weeds with pockets and I wanna spool up some braid. Id use it for hollow body frogs, flipping, etc. Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Spend a little and get good stuff. Suffix 832, Power Pro are some to consider. Quote
Brand0n Posted July 24, 2011 Author Posted July 24, 2011 been looking into power pro 50lb, color doesnt really make a difference since it will be seen anyhow? Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted July 24, 2011 Super User Posted July 24, 2011 Power Pro sucks....either Suffix or Fireline Braid Quote
Pantera61 Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Power Pro sucks.... How dare you speak in such a manner about a Shimano product? Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted July 24, 2011 Super User Posted July 24, 2011 Sufix As for the "cheap" part -- when you look for braid, there can certainly be some initial sticker shock. But considering that you can leave that stuff on your reel for YEARS, it can be cheaper than fluoro and mono over the long term. Quote
ChrisAW Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 I've met a few people at work that like the Vicious braid... A couple were Muskie guys, told me that it has a nice tight weave, and is a pretty smooth line. Other guys have tried it all and settled with Vicious, said they seen no point in spending more when their braid was just as good. It feels like good line to me, but I haven't got the chance to use it yet so I couldn't give you my own word on it. I personally use 832, but I will probably spool on some in the future if I "need" braid and want to save 5 bucks. Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Right now I'm using Power Pro and Cajun Braid which has been on clearance at Cabelas for $6.99 and it has worked great. My Power Pro is about 2 years old on one of my rods and cajun about a year old on one reel. I had a reel spooled with 832 but only used it once or twice before selling the reel it was spooled on so can't really speak to its performance. Quote

Packard Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Tbh, I'd just get what's on clearance. To me braid is braid you they all pretty much have the same qualities. Quote

Super User Crestliner2008 Posted July 24, 2011 Super User Posted July 24, 2011 Am I missing something here? I'm hearing a lot of folks hyping up the new 832 braid. All well & good, but it does have a characteristic different from other braids. It sinks. This may not be the best "all around" braid for many. Especially if you're fond of top water fishing. You aren't going to "walk-the-dog" with 832. It would be a fine jigging braid (with a leader of course) or any sub-surface presentation. Just not for every presentation, as some people say. It's just another tool to use. Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted July 25, 2011 Super User Posted July 25, 2011 You aren't going to "walk-the-dog" with 832. I can let my Sammy sit in the water for an hour, come back, and walk the dog fine with 832 Quote

WanderLust Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 Fireline when its on sale. Never cared for Power Pro on casting gear. 832 is a decent line as well. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 25, 2011 Super User Posted July 25, 2011 Line is a personal choice, for me it's such a secondary issue I don't push one over the other, I buy the best deal out there, around here that's Power Pro of Fins. If a person thinks they aren't catching fish or knots not holding with certain lines, it isn't a different line that's needed. People catch fish on all lines made, all equipment made, it's never the bow, it's always the archer. Quote

It's just another tool to use. It's a bit of a misnomer saying that 832 was designed to sink. It's designed with properties that allow it to sink with a lure, not much more than that. It still doesn't sink like a fluorocarbon. The primary way it sinks is through capillary flow, not as though it's weighted. Keep in mind it is still a hydrophobic water repellent line, as is all braid minus Fluorobraid. In terms of it's use as an all-round braid, it's one of the best for that very reasons. It's got very good characteristics across the board. It has very fine behaviour for walking the dog, as well as any other topwater presentation. Don't let your own hype about braid sinking fool you. ChiCityBasser Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 have you had an issues with the red dye coming off the cajun line? I wouldn't say it was an issue as pretty much all braids release some color over time. My Power Pro has lost its color and yes the Cajun does lose its color after time on the water its more like a dull faded red now on the spool. Quote
philsoreel Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 It's not magical sinking braid. Dyneema still floats and it makes up 87.5% of the material in 832. It sinks a little better, but nothing spectacular. Quote
