He decided he wanted to get into bass fishing so i recommended a used bass tracker is a great boat to start with. He replied he wanted a real bass boat and went out and bought a $25,000 skeeter. Then told me bass fishing is not rocket science. This offended me greatly maybe im jealous Quote

If he can afford the boat, why does it bother you? If he can't afford the boat why does it bother you? Does his not taking your advice bother you, or are you jealous of him starting with a new rig? Does the fact that fishing is NOT rocket science bother you? To answer your question; no it does not bother me. Maybe you can help him learn some of the countless things he probably doesn't know, while fishing from a new rig. Sounds like a good deal to me. Ratherbfishing has a good point; maybe you can buy the boat cheap if the enthusiasm wears off. Quote

Exactly LOL Personally, it wouldn't bother me the in the slightest..... But it might bother him when I kept showing him photos of all the monsters I'm catching out of a 14ft aluminum. It might also bother him as I was constantly enforcing the fact that even if I hit the lotto for $100 million, I'd still WAAAAY prefer to fish for Bass (and most other freshwater species) out of my little 14ft baby, than I would, a big, heavy, cumbersome, flashy high-per bass boat ! Speaking strictly for myself, a high performance bass boat would just be flat out detrimental to my fishing. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now, it might bother me if my buddy went out and spent $500,000 on a totally custom F650 truck..... because that's something completely frivolous, that I'd LOVE to be able to do, but can't afford to Peace, Fish Quote

You know what I mean - show him all those "secret techniques" like - Ultra light frog fishing in the slop, 30lb Mono for deep cranking, How to fish a Texas rigged G I Joe, and how to cast Really far by turning ALL the breaks off on his casting reel - especially when he's first learning. I guess I was offended when he said Bass trackers are not real bass boats being I started in a jon boat then a tracker and now a stratos. I loved my bass tracker and know a lot of real bass fishers who fish them. Then he iced the cake with "It's not rocket science" Being all the hard work we all put into being successful. I replied “no its biology and u have a long way to go”. I'm the first guy to offer help with fishing or to give people an opportunity to fish as I know so many of you do the same. So I guess it frustrates me an arrogant idiot like this guy is allowed to join such a great past time with great guys. I knew your replies would lighten the mood. Mostly just thought you guys would get a kick out of it! Quote

Dinky Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 I can see that when he says that bass fishing 'isn't rocket science' it seems like an insult to you, especialy since you spent time trying to teach him what you know. It was a bit of a slap in the face for him to say that, not to mention the fact that it was classless on his part. Someone already mentioned the idea that is so true: boats don't catch fish. I do see a lot of what I call 'reverse snobbery' by some folks-not necessarily on this board, but just in general. It is an attitude that anyone who does have a $25,000 or higher cost rig has to be 'put down' or sneered at and that it is a badge of honor to show him up in a 14' aluminum boat. As for the Tracker Boat: definitely one of the most versital, safe, fishable, affordable fishing boats around. I hope to be buried in mine. But, Skeeter makes a good boat also. I don't think it would bug me if a guy buys a $25,000 Skeeter as his first boat. But it would bug me a lot if he was so classless as to tell me bass fishing wasn't rocket science after I had spent time helping him out. 1 Quote

A-Jay this is what it is all about. Teach him this and you will learn to soften your heart. However, i would also add that the biggest fish in any lake are the ones that lurk in the deepest part of the center of the lake. No better way to get down there than using a downrigger trolling a home tied fly. Quote
