MuffinMan Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 what is some great line (not braid) i can buy for around $8? Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted July 23, 2011 Super User Posted July 23, 2011 For what purpose? Species, cover, water clarity? Lines are designed <usually> for very specific purposes. If you are looking for a general line for a spinning reel, I'd opt for Trilene XL in either 6# or 8# tests. Baitcasting, go for XT in 12# - 15# tests. All pretty reasonably priced. Quote

Beat me to the punch.I always come back to this line. I like P-line CXX 6# test for spinning and also yo zuri hybrid ultra soft(same test #) as well. Currently I have 14# test trilene XT,12# test trilene XL and 50# test sufix 832 braid(for topwater frogs exclusively) on my baitcasters.I've been really happy with my line choices this year. Quote

I'm curious grimlin, why do you use 832 for topwater fishing? That line was specifically designed to sink I thought? Quote

Super User grimlin Posted July 23, 2011 Super User Posted July 23, 2011 I'm curious grimlin, why do you use 832 for topwater fishing? That line was specifically designed to sink I thought? Worked fast enough I don't give it time to sink. Plus I use the frogs like ribbits, horney toad etc,etc and I like to let them sink....Don't ask me why but I get more hits that way that than just buzzing the frog on top of the water. Something I'm experimenting right now with. It's kind a double duty line and has been working out for me strangely. The no stretch has a lot to do with it too. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted July 24, 2011 Super User Posted July 24, 2011 It doesn't stretch like mono. Neither does the plethora of braids out there, other than 832. I'm not criticizing...just curious is all. I don't see the benefit of 832, other than crankbait fishing and/or plastics & jigs. Whatever you have confidence in will work for you. Quote

I thought you were talking about using braided lines for frogs in general. Now that I see you meant just 832 I see where you are coming from. Quote

I wouldn't be surprised if I'm getting a different action using a braid that sinks with topwater lure. But it's working for me.... Quote
