Super User Chris at Tech Posted February 22, 2007 Super User Posted February 22, 2007 Anyone have any input on the most versatile polarized sunglass lens for fishing? I'm likely gonna get a pair of Costa Del Mar's, and the BPS catalog description makes it look like vermillion is the most versatile. The lady I spoke to at BPS disagreed, recommending amber (she said not many folks like the coloring of the vermillion lens). Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted February 22, 2007 Super User Posted February 22, 2007 eeeekkkkk!!! I just sent mine in and having them replaced with Vermilion lenses...(chose them over Amber). : You might want to give Costa a call. Their customer service is top notch and they will answer questions like this. I called a few weeks ago and explained my situation and they recommended 3 lens colors I wanted a lens for: #1 Sight fishing in all conditions - freshwater #2 Low light fishing days - freshwater #3 Driving They recommended - Vermilion, Green Mirror (which has an Amber lens), and Amber. The guy who helped me recommended them to me in that order. Quote
MarVaBC Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 I have no experience with the "vermillion" lens, but I can recommend the amber ones. I like them b/c they brighten it up on a cloudy day, but still work well on a sunny day. Quote
Super User South FLA Posted February 22, 2007 Super User Posted February 22, 2007 I use to work for an eye glass shop and tried every pair of top fishing sunglasses from Ocean Waves to Costas. I also have fished in various conditions in both fresh and salt water and to this day I swear by Costas "sunrise" lens for sight fishing the lens is a bit bright for versatility, but it is substantially better for sight fishing, amber being a close second and vermillion third. Gray lenses don't distort color as much and are better on sunny days, but are a bit dark for early and late in the day. The other colors give much better for contrasting a fish from bottom, with "sunrise" lenses giving more contrast, depth of field, and brightness. Amber is a bit more comfortable to wear throughout the day. The mirror lens blocks out more glare, thus the same lense with a mirror lense will be darker which is what you don't want when your sight fishing early or late in the day. So back to the orginal question, which is most versatile? It depends ;D. So why compromise get all possible combinations, or get the Costas with the interchangeable lens systems go here: http://www.costadelmar.com/store/category.aspx?categoryId=11 I own a pair of the Tropic Star with the Gray/Amber/Sunrise combinations and love them. BPS sells them. I bet you end up wearing the sunrise lense the most when fishing. Quote
bassin_man Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 I was looking at getting a pair of costa interchangeable lenses. Do the lenses stay in pretty good? Also how hard is it to change leneses? Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 22, 2007 Super User Posted February 22, 2007 I prefer amber because of it's high color contrast Quote
cwen Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 I use the mossback lenses from solar bats. Awsome for the spawn. Quote
