bdjk00 Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 Looking at hard baits and notice that the Bass Pro brand is in general a lot cheaper than name brands (Rapala, Strike King, etc.) Want to know if anyone uses these. Do they work? Or do they just not compare?? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 22, 2011 Global Moderator Posted July 22, 2011 They catch fish but they also break pretty easy in my experience. Quote
jdw174 Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 I have several and they all catch fish. Haven't had any trouble with breakage. Have one that's a "Sammy" look-a-like that's become my favorite TW lure. Quote
Nick Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 Some work and some don't. Most are pretty cheaply made so buyer beware. Hooks are a definite weakness. Who the heck is/was "Shoestring" DuBois anyway? Guess he's down the trail, so to speak, with Uncle Buck and his bevy of calendar girls.. Those were the days! Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 The XPS brand of shallow and super shallow crankbaits have worked great for me this year. The Egg has been my go to crank this year and never had any problems with breakage or anything. Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted July 22, 2011 Super User Posted July 22, 2011 Great quality lures. Never had problem with any breakage. However the hooks aren't the best, but they'll get the job done. Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 The Slim Dawg, a Sammy type top water is a decent bait. Swap the split rings and hooks and it's ready to go. The finishes are surprisingly good. Quote
basser89 Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 While they don't get to the depths of the DD22, the Extreme crank is one of my favorite deeper water cranks. And while I can't walk a Sammy to save my life, I can walk the Slim Dog. I had a few of their first gen jerkbaits that have produced well for me in the past too. Quote
