HookSetDon Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 This week has been extremely humid temperatures reaching 115 degrees, not something were familiar with.. I'm sure the a lot of you on these forums know these conditions very well. I'm curious how the bite will be this weekend and whether I should have a different approach ready. Whether it be lure, presentation or location of the fish? Thanks, Donnie Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted July 22, 2011 Super User Posted July 22, 2011 I like to go deeper, slower, bigger. In my local area fishing spots the bite has been on isolated structure in deep water (8-12 ft). I usually throw a large bodied, deep-diving crank, and run it next to the structure, but I want to clip the structure just a little bit. After a while If I don't get bit, I'll try and pick them apart with a jig, then try a big plastic. I may throw something else into the mix also. If I still get no bites, I look for the slop. The nastiest of weeds, matted grass, and snot looking stuff to throw a frog, and occasionally punch through. Quote
Quillback Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 It's a record breaking summer down here in Arkansas, we always have hot summers but this is ridiculous. I've been going out at dawn (sometimes before dawn) and can usually manage to pick up a few bass on 10" worms t-rigged. Wacky senko will also occasionally get bit on the shadow side of docks in deep water. I'm usually off the water by 0900 as it just starts getting too darn hot. Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 It's been record heat here in Chicago as well and haven't been out in a couple of day but I will make it out tomorrow. I plan to hit the lake just at sunrise and be off the lake by 8:30 as it will be getting warm around that time. I'm fishing from the bank and at a retention pound but I will be trying a 10" worm and a shallow to mid diving crank since the pound is maybe 7-8 feet deep. If I get no hits on either of those then I will go to a jig and see hot that works out. Quote
j0k3r Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 Yeah it's hot but the air temps aren't too important. The water is hot as usual and the fish's metabolism is super high, fish are either gonna be deep or in the worst of the worst muck, weed and tight to shore cover. I'd do the frog thing early morning/evening and jigs daytime targeting cover. Fishing deep w/ cranks as clary said will work too. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted July 22, 2011 Super User Posted July 22, 2011 It's really hot here as well. Heck on the way home from work I saw the air temp in my truck coming in at 111*. We had a prolong heat wave last summer causing the water levels in the area dropping about 8' plus in some water bodies. I usually start off slow with jigs, tubes and such. They worked but I had much better results in burning a spinnerbait believe it or not. I dropped down 1 size on the blade and reeled as fast as I could with occasional pauses. Saved many of fishless days for me. Give it a whirl. Quote
