stkbassn Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 I was considering picking up a Curado 50 E for my Mattlures Swimbait rod. I have the 7'7 MH with the 4" handle extension. It's a nice rod and fairly light, rated for 1-4oz baits.... I've wanted a Curado 300D or DSV for a while but I get tired of the high asking prices for these things. (ANYONE WHO HAS ONE AND WILL BE REASONABLE ABOUT THE PRICE, PLEASE LET ME KNOW ..UNLESS YOU CAN OPEN THE SIDEPLATE AND TAKE CASH OUT OF IT, IT"S NOT GOING TO MAKE YOU ANY MONEY JUST SITTING THERE Will the 50E do the trick or is it not enough reel? Keep in mind that I am throwing 6" Hudds, Mattlures Baby Bass, and some larger baits from time to time. Thanks Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 21, 2011 Super User Posted July 21, 2011 Not enough line capacity. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 Hold out for something with added line capacity. A 300 size Curado, Calcutta or Ambassaduer... Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 21, 2011 Super User Posted July 21, 2011 Cardiff 300 is a PERFECT reel for swimbaiting. Quote
djmax22 Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 No chance. I would go up to a 300 series reel. You might want to check out the round reels like the Cardiff and Calcutta B and TE series. I prefer round reels for larger swimbaits. Quote
stkbassn Posted July 21, 2011 Author Posted July 21, 2011 Cardiff 300 is a PERFECT reel for swimbaiting. I did try the Cardiff at one point and just didn't fall in love with it. I thought it was a bit heavy and bulky and never got the distance out of it I had hoped for. I just don't like round reels very much I suppose...Never had a Calcutta or higher end one though.... I was afraid the line capacity might be an issue here. So much for an easy solution to my Curado 300D frustration.....Thanks for the reply.... Might just have to suck it up and lay down the cash for the 300E or an overpriced 300D though I know both are worth it once you get them in your hand....I love Curados. Quote
Super User deep Posted July 22, 2011 Super User Posted July 22, 2011 I have a Curado 301E on the self-same rod that you got.. I love it for the little 6" swimbaits that I throw. Quote
Super User South FLA Posted July 22, 2011 Super User Posted July 22, 2011 Another alternative you may want to look at is the Daiwa Coastal Inshore CL153H (About $120). Its basically a saltwater version of the Team Daiwa Advantage so its a great proven workhorse. I use to to use a Calcutta 200GTB and my arms and upper body have been thankful ever since I switched. Packard Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 Ive got a quantum iron round baitcaster if you think it will do the trick. Quote

I did buy one and sold it shortly after. I like that reel though....I may do that again. It's a smooth reel indeed ! For 120 I think it's darn good ! Quote

philsoreel Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 A Curado 200E5 doesn't have enough line cap? I don't think I've ever gotten down past half a spool tossing 1-1.5oz. baits with it. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 22, 2011 Super User Posted July 22, 2011 Most of us use 25# CXX. You tie on a $100+ bait, you aren't using some flimsy line that could break off on a cast. I can spool my Calcutta 200B with a 4 oz. bait. Quote

I'm getting another E5 today for small/medium cranks on my St Croix Pro Glass....I've never had distance issues with one but I haven't used it for long casts with big baits either.....my understanding is they have the same capacity as the D models but just much smaller and lighter in hand....They are smaller and lighter but I still love my D's the best. I really do want the 300 though...just gotta have one! I missed the best deal in a while a week or so ago, 300D for $135.....D*&%! Quote

Super User deep Posted July 23, 2011 Super User Posted July 23, 2011 What is a $100.00 lure? http://www.316lurecompany.com/baits/hardbaits.html These, among others.... Quote
philsoreel Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 http://www.316lurecompany.com/baits/hardbaits.html These, among others.... HOLY CRAP Batman! If I paid $150 for a lure I'd use a net to boat it after each cast. 1 Quote

John G Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 WOW! I have never seen a lure that costs that much. Those will definitely not be finding their way into my tackle box anytime soon. If I had the cash, yes they would. My first thought was that you have to be crazy to buy those but when I think about it, those expensive lures are no different than a target archer spending $500.00 on a dozen arrows. 1 Quote

I've got to graduate from 5" hollow bodies to the big boys. Just got a new rod and reel Friday and I've already found an excuse to buy another. Sorry about jacking your thread. Quote

No worries, it's always interesting to see what a thread can bring out....I haven't bought anything more expensive than the Huddleston Deluxe as far as swimbaits go...I like the Mattlures baby bass and the Hudds.....I tell you what, for the money these are both fish catching machines. I can't imagine a $100 plus swimbait being that much more lethal....only to your wallet I would imagine....that's just my opinion...maybe I'd be surprised I'll demo any that anyone would like to send Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 If Larry Dahlberg uses it muskie fishing, I think it will be fine for swimbait fishing for bass (at minute 3:04 of the video, he switches his rod and reel to the Curado 50) Quote
