jeremyt Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 Heading to Kerr for a week of vacation. Any clues as to what the fish are doing would be very helpful. Will be staying on the NC side near the dam. Kimballs point to be exact. Probably looking to fish Points on Nutbush creek and feeder creeks off of that. I have heard from others that the fishing is mighty slow up there now. I was thinking that cranks and shakey heads in 12-20 fow would be a good start. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated. Quote

I would take Wayne up on his advise!!! I did not get to fish as much as I had hoped for last weekend but most of the water I had fished was less than 20' deep and top water worked really well in that range. They were all around cover either close to shore or out in the middle...there is a lot of timber out in the water back in the coves that I got to fish so be careful if you are not familure with the place. jeremyt Posted July 21, 2011 Author Posted July 21, 2011 Thanks for the advice, I am at work now so I can't see the picture Wayne P so I will look when I get home. Nitro, The area we are staying in is relatively deep and not much cover around that I know of. It goes from the bank to 25 fow within 50 yards. The center of the cove goes out to 40 feet and then in Nutbush by the campground the water is well over 50ft deep. I may try to venture out a little bit more this year than in previous years. I have been camping there for 10 years now and haven't had too much luck with bass caught a few here and there but nothing to really speak of. We generally do well on cat fish and pan fish. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted July 21, 2011 Super User Posted July 21, 2011 While your are in thar area, go into Clarksville harbor between the docks and the new bridge and check out the submerged road bed. Find the food=find the bass Quote

I wish I was more familure with the area you are refering too but since you described where you are fishing all I can offer is what worked for me. Look for rocks on the shore line chances are there will be rock cover under the water as well and what I would try is fishing about 20 yards off shore early in the am and fish parellel for the first couple of hours then move deeper as the day progresses. As for what baits to throw I wasn't there long enough to figure out what really worked but I was throwing a hula popper early and switched to shakey heads with green pumpkin 11" worms and sexy shads in the middle of the day untill I ran out of time and caught an ok amount of fish, I loved being there it really is a great looking lake. Good luck and be safe and have a great vacation!!! Quote

Super User Wayne P. Posted July 21, 2011 Super User Posted July 21, 2011 Wayne what are all of those light gray blotches on the screen? The small ones in the black area (water column)are schools of fish. The larger ones on the bottom on each side of the road is hard bottom areas. The creek channel is on the right side where a bridge used to be (the gap in the road). Quote
