FL_Sharpshooter Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 Me and my brother live in Lehigh Acres, FL, right at the line of Alva and Lehigh. We are only about an hour away from Clewiston. We ended up going to Roland Martin's Marina located in Clewiston, thinking it had docks and such to fish off of that lead into the main lake. It ended up being a big canal and the lake was somewhere on the other side? So, we went a town over (I can't remember the name) to see if we could spot an entrance to the Lake. We never did, so we settled on a canal that was next to the Lake. My question is, where is the best/quickest way to get into Lake O without a boat? Thanks. P.S., I ended up only catching a 1lb bass out of the canal -- there was an 8+ ft gator in there that would've been more than happy to take it off my hands
salmicropterus Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 I can't think of any place where you can fish the Lake from land. Most of the Lake has a barrier ditch (the Rim Ditch) on its edge before you get the Lake itself. All access points on the Lake are either on the Ditch or recessed from it on a canal like Roland's. A suggestion: at Clewiston, if you go past Roland's to the left turn that runs to the ramps at the city ramps, you can continue to drive over the levee and fish the Rim Ditch. Since the Lake is so low, you'll have to navigate some large chunk rock to get down close to the water but that, or other places like it at Moorehaven, Belle Glade etc. have similar set-ups. This can be a pretty good fishing spot because there are many release fish from the tournament weigh-in areas nearby.

I was just a little wary because of the low water levels.

GLADES Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 The RV park in Moorehaven usually has folks fishing from the docks.I don't know if they allow non campers to fish there though. The rim canal in that spot connects to the monkey box ditch. There was a lot of pan fish and speckled perch being caught the last time I passed by there.I am sure there are some decent bass there as well
FL_Sharpshooter Posted July 21, 2011 Author Posted July 21, 2011 I'll give the rim canal a better shot this next time. I looked on google earth, and the rim canal next to Roland Martin's is about the closest I can get, not too far up from there is the main lake.
gar-tracker Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 If you get a hold of a small boat go fish out in the Clewiston channel you don't have to go far just stay by the markers. Thats stright out from the locks leaving Roland Martins. Like already mentioned Okeechobee s about the least conducive lake in the world for bank fishing.
Larry ogletree Posted February 8 Posted February 8 You can go to Okeechobee and fish at the pier are you can go to the river and fish there. If you have a boat both places have a boat ramp.
