Thisyear in the colder months I changed up my game and got me some 832 at Bass Pro smile.gif And I love it ! But I see Samurai staring me down, because it has a smaller diameter. 832 is 40:10 while Samurai is 40:8.

Has anybody used both? They seem to be the top dogs right now in the braid market ans was wondering if you like one more than the other. Only a 5 dollar price difference too in the mid range sizes.

Which do you like more? And why?

I have used them yes, Samurai is my favorite for most applications, but lately I have been using Suffix 832 for sinking applications. Stick with Samurai for hollow body frogs or any other topwater application and 832 for sinking applications.

I used both on 20# rating... Ended up stripping the samurai and putting in trash. I rarely trash a braid line but this one sucks big time. Breaks too easy, colors bleeds too much.. I've also use 10# Fireline, it's good but too thick for a braid. 832 is best among the three. It can be stiffed on the first day of use but just let it break-in and use it a couple of days and it will be smooth.

???, really you threw away Samurai cause it sucks big time? First person that I have heard say that, to me its the smoothest quietest braid out there, yes the color runs, but not anymore than other quality braids. You may have had an issue since it smaller in diameter that other braids of same rated lb test and is extremely limp so you must be aware of what its doing especially when loading up to cast, but saying it sucks big time is a stretch. I would reserve those choice words for lines like the original Fireline or worse yet, Fireline Crystal, haven't tried the Fireline Braid though, the original and crystal superlines are fused lines not true braid. Also, my experience is mostly using braid on level wind reels, not spinning reels, although some people like some memory on spinning outfits to avoid wind knots.

You may also want to try Suffix Performance braid,

The deal with Samurai and Saltiga is that it's rated breaking strength is actually close to the actual breaking strength. That is unlike the other superlines where the actual breaking strength is way higher than the package rating.

Samurai was the smoothest no question about it. I probably had a bad batch, but I would not try that again. I don't think I would ever gain anything if said it sucks big time. But I actually put a simple load test by tying it on a scale and it keeps breaking way below its rating. Thus, I decided it's not worth keeping it on my reel and better to dump it. It's going to cost me some of my favorite lures plus fish if I keep using it.

The Sufix performance braid is also good. I still have some reels loaded with them, but slowly replacing them with 832. The 832 is smooth and quiet on the retrieve. For now I will stick with 832 until something better comes out.

I wasn't overly fond of Samurai, though, either. Granted I'm a braid hater and overly particular about it, but both the spools I got were blech. I had both 40 and 55, and both were noisy, both felt like they contributed to a more mushy hookset than with "outdated" lines, and I don't mean Power Pro. It had a fine break strength, but it didn't have the same casting behaviour and manageability as other braids. I feel like I gave it a fair shake and it just wasn't for me. (It also turned one of my cork handles pink, should have taken a picture of that one, because it was pretty funny. My wife has claimed that GLX as hers now, "It's pink, therefore it's mine."

I've tried both and by far prefer 832. I've even given Samurai a second chance and still don't like it.
