The reel weighs less than a pound???? All of mine do. I could spool them with bailing wire and come in under a pound. And the rod weighs less than a pound??? All of mine do. Ike needs to get some better numbers.

LOL, he probably meant the rod and reel comes in under a pound - that's light.

Ya, he was a little excited. The whole rod and reel combo comes in at about 9oz.

That's just stoopid light!

Don't most modern casting combos, even the mid-low range ones come in under a # now-a-days?

St.Croix Triumph - 7' MH/F - 4.7 ounces.

Random low-pro casting reel - lets say 10 ounces at most.

It still comes in at less than a #.

Not trying to argue, but I think less than 10 ounces in impressive. 8 Ounces is even better.

Not trying to argue with you J.

Edit: Just saw Glenn's post. It's under 9 oz. That's pretty impressive. Abu is stepping their game up. Still need some work in the looks department though.cool.gif

What's funnier is all the "best of show" divisions. I'll bet many were the only entry, LOL.

Rod and Reel 9oz. put a "stick jacket" on it and watch it fly out of the boat with the least gust of wind.

Geee, Ike makes one little mistake....... :)

I am surprised the DAIWA T3 Ballistic did not win best of show.

Are rods and reels getting too light? I understand lighter will drain you less fishing all day and aid with sensitivity. But, it seems the super light weight stuff just does not have that "ideal," casting weight (not sure if I expressed that correctly).

I had a preimer at one point, great reel, but when I cast a lure it was all rod weight and did not seem to have that inertia at the handle of the rod as an anchor point. (Sorry, I went to engineering school).

My premier cast just fine on light rods. I suggest working out or learning to cast, because it isn't the rod from being too light.

LMAO a reel thats under a pound, and WOWOWOWOWOW A rod and reel thats UNDER TWO POUNDS!!!! People we are in for a REVOLUTION!!!! Mikes a dummy lmao..

I do love the IVCB system in my AE74's... and Im really glad they brought that breaking system over to the US its the best CEN breaking system out and almost as good as Daiwas Magforce V-Z... I Only fish Daiwa reels and two AE74's and have two new ones in the Display case... I can say that I will buy two or three of these MGX's just because I love that breaking system and this reel will cast light baits close to a Steez 103 I would bet I mean its not gonna Replace a TD-Z105 or Pixy family of reels but it will go light and still handle heavier stuff to because its an Abu...

I think this is gonna be a nice reel and will change things up some as people will FALL IN LOVE with that breaking system... If you have never used it you will be in for a treat when you get to, its very liner hugely adjustable its one of the best breaking systems ever made it controls the spool really good even in the low settings allowing for really high spool speeds, I mean my AE74's are some of the best casting reels I own and will throw ANY bait 3/16th and up and thats own 14# FC on a Evergreen Black Raven so just think of what they will do on a lighter rod with lighter line? and Im willing to bet this reel will do the same thing.
