Help a guy out. I'm a certifiable junky when it comes to rods, as most anyone that knows me will tell you. I've got in excess of 90 rods from various manufacture. One thing I've never done is get in depth in glass rods. I'm doing that now, after fishing a friends glass this weekend.

I'm after two rods, really, a 7-0 to 7-4 and a 7-6 to 7-11. Shoot your opinions, and should you care, why you prefer that particular rod.

Thanks in advance.

Dobysn 704 CB awesome rod for small to medium divers. Lamiglas 705R is great too for medium divers, but I don't like it for deep cranking like other on this board (too short of handle and too short of lengthwise for my taste. It still an excellent rod.

For deep cranking, Lamiglas Skeet Reese SR705R is THE BOMB!

I knew I should have snagged that Lamiglas in the Flea Market. That rod comes so highly recommended...

I just sold it today. Someone got a good all around cranking stick. Lamiglas still sells that same blank in their cranking rod lineup. The only difference being it does not say Skeet Reese and the blank is black instead of yellow.

Thanks for the heads up. I've looked around for that rod for at least a year, I've been intending to get a good glass rod for a long while, have just always been happy with my graphite rods, though. I'll find one I suppose.

I look forward to cranking with it and Hooligan, I will give you a review once I get it!

You might not like that glass feel. Don't sleep on the Powell rods also. They make a nice cranking stick and the price is right too.

For deep cranks my Dobyns Champion 765CB has performed great.

Can't wait to try that rod a little more. Dobyns makes a solid lineup of cranking stick. The 704 is a perfect wiggle wart and RC 1.5. The 805 is a beast for deep cranking.

I was looking at the 704 today, decided to do some more research before I pick it up.

I mosty crank 8-16ft, DT's bombers spros, would you think the 704 is good for that? or the 705 is better?

704's available locally for me, would have to order from shop the 705.....hate ordering though, once I got my eye on a rod, i want it ASAP.

The 704 is really good for wiggle wart (which I throw a lot) and R.C. 1.5 cranks. You might want to go bigger if you plan on going deeper in than 10 feet. Either 705 or step up to the 764CB RM (its not glass).

I love the Dobyns lineup, but I think I may prefer the Powell 704CB Glass rod for cranks. It handles all cranks beautifully, regardless of depth.

Yeah I had a 754 for years before I traded it in. It was a good rod.

Well, I ordered the SR705R and a Dobyns 764 today. Should be a fun comparison.

Good luck with your glass crank rod - hope it works for you. I've read the articles about cranking and recommending glass rods. Stuff about delayed reactions, slower response time, etc. I can see how if you fished alot and had finely homes fishing reflexes that might be true.

Me I get to go fishing once a week - maybe. My fishing reflexes aren't finely honed, to tell the truth, I miss quite a few fish no matter what technique I'm using.

What I do know is that I miss fewer fish when I'm using a 7' med action, fast tip graphite rod than a fiberglass cranking rod.

I'm just saying - that's just me, I'm not a big fan of fiberglass rods.

Couldn't resist. Ran across a St Croix Mojo 7-8 for $25 and snagged that up, too. It feels a LOT lighter than the 7-4 KVD Tour. Had fun with it on the pond throwing SSR9s today...
