djmax22 Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 Does anyone use lamiglas rods??? I used them for a few years before i moved to Loomis. They are really nice well made rods with a good warranty. Very underrated and their glass cranking rods are really good. Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted July 19, 2011 Super User Posted July 19, 2011 For deep cranking, the SR705R is THE BOMB! Quote
Red Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 I have four of the Excel rods. They are great in my opinion. Best part....Made in the USA!!! Cliff Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 Lamiglas seems to have a bigger following on the west coast. They are quality blanks. I'm with RW on the SR705 for deep cranking. Quote
Super User webertime Posted July 19, 2011 Super User Posted July 19, 2011 I've got 734C and 703S Excel rods, they are fantastic rods. A 734C with a 50/1 sized Curado is an amazing combo for most anything except for flipping big jigs and heavy cover. The ONLY knock I can say about them is the bronze paint is rather thin on the blank so around the hook hanger gets worn a bit. Absolutely nothing functionally bad about the rods especially for ~$100 and made in America. (Rumor is they are the same blank as the Certified Pro). Quote

bassin is addicting Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 i've got the Excel 703 spinning rod and love it... picked it up on sale last year on TW. great rod for the price! imo would def recommend.. Quote
Quitlimpin Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 I have three of them, and absolutely love them. Haven't tried any of the excels but if they close in quality to the certified pros, I'm sure they rock. Quote
Super User islandbass Posted July 19, 2011 Super User Posted July 19, 2011 I use them. As mentioned they are superunderrated outside the west coast. You won't be disappointed with the Certified Pro or Excel lines. Quote

Super User Alpster Posted July 20, 2011 Super User Posted July 20, 2011 As a rod builder, since Loomis quit selling their blanks, I build almost exclusively on Lamiglas blanks. I have several in my personal rod collection. Can't go wrong with Lamiglas. JMHO Ronnie Quote
TourPT Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 I own a few Certified Pros and a couple Excels. Very good rods IMO, however there customer service, if you ever have a problem, is about the worst in the biz. A friend of mine is still waiting for a replacement for a Certified Pro Rod he sent in 5 months ago because the reel seat came lose. It took two months and three phone calls for me to finally receive an end cap that fell off the end of one of my excel rods and into the lake. Every call I was told it would ship out the next day, I guess next day to them means weeks. Very friendly on the phone, but full of hot air. On the flip side, I once called Loomis for a replacement rod tip guide of which was under warranty. Not only did I receive the guide in week, they sent me 5 of them along with a nice Loomis decal. Lamiglass could learn a few things from Loomis.(note this was when Gary owned the company so things may be different now a days) Bottom line, good rods, just really bad / slow customer service if you ever need to use such. 1 Quote

=Matt 5.0= Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 I have four of the Excel rods. They are great in my opinion. Best part....Made in the USA!!! Cliff Use Lamiglas almost exclusively for saltwater. They are a dominant force for New England Surfcasters. Might have something to do with Ron Arra being a local.... I recently picked up their Excel Swimbait rod, it is awesome. Quote
TourPT Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 joy i broke excel today. *#%!@ Sorry to hear that. I wish you better luck then we have had with Lamiglas. Quote
Super User islandbass Posted July 25, 2011 Super User Posted July 25, 2011 That sucks to hear how their customer service treated you. I will say that my treatment has been the exact opposite. They followed my note to the T and called me like I requested. I broke my rod by accident and told them that I already bought a new one to replace it and if I could get a replacement of a different model. Got the call while I was playing golf. They said that I could pick any rod and she really meant ANY rod for just $75.00. That threw me for a curve and my memory went blank as one who should have been able to recite by will many of their rods. I could have gotten an XMG rod, but like I said, I blanked out and chose the Drop Shot special. Their program is fair. I am not associated with them in any way, but I am sorry that your treatment was less than satisfactory. Quote

I am not associated with them in any way, but I am sorry that your treatment was less than satisfactory. Glad to hear they took care of you. I can't speak for my buddy of whom is still waiting for his replacement or fixed rod, well I could but I would get banned if I used the language he does about this issue, but all's I can tell you is I called three times on a minor issue and was told three times the end cap would go out the following day of which the following day meant weeks. Now I understand an end cap has no effect on the performance of the rod, but it is a brand new rod that I paid good money for and really, how hard is it to put an end cap in a envelope and mail it out. Small price to pay to keep a customer happy and coming back for more. They where very friendly on the phone and the fact is if they would have just said it will be a month or two before we can ship one out, I could have accepted that, I mean it is just and end cap, but that is not what I was told, in fact what I was told and what I got in return made me, the customer, feel like they where blowing me off, they got my money already so who cares. The bottom line is, they do make great rods and actually I am surprised more people are not using Lamiglas rods, but the customer service department really needs to step up there game IMO, at the very least, just tell the truth instead of BS-ing the customer. Yes I am sure they have a hundred customers all wanting this or that right now, but just tell it like it is for a change and guys like me won't be posting bad experiences with the company online. I hate doing such, especially when where talking about a company with a solid product, but at the same time if a fellow basser is asking about such, well I want to help just as reading post about other products has helped me decide. I mean I could have just as easily said, they have great customer service, sent me my part in a heartbeat, if they just would have been honest with me. Quote
Super User islandbass Posted July 26, 2011 Super User Posted July 26, 2011 I'm with you on being forthright. It just sucks how one boob on the other side of the phone can tarnish a company's reputation, giving bs like that. When I was told by a Lamiglas rep that the excels were made with certified pro blanks, I was shocked and and pleasantly surprised. However, just to make sure, I called Lamiglas to confirm his claim. I asked point blank, and the operator start with, "Well..." I sensed a little wriggling and cut to the chase and said, well it either is made with a cert pro blank or it isn't and she said yes, it is. I thanked her and was blown away. A certified pro blank, made in the USA for $100 give or take a few? That is an incredible deal. I am inclined to believe that they are getting at the $100 mark by using a lesser guide. Certs sport alconite guides the last time I checked. Quote

LOL I actually asked that same question about the blanks and was told it was the same graphite only wrapped different with whatever it is that holds the graphite together, different direction or something, she lost me after the first two minutes of her trying to explain it to me. LOL I don't know but the actions are pretty dang similar between the Excels and Certs. I do really like the Excel Frog rod, in fact I own frogs rods that cost twice as much that are nowhere near as good as the Excel as far as action and power go, they may have better guides and such, but the Excel actually is my favorite frog rod right now. They just need to work out that customer service issue and then I would buy more. Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted July 27, 2011 Super User Posted July 27, 2011 I have 3 Excels and have been very pleased. They are my "beater" rods (still take care of them but I don't get too excited if they bounce around a little in the pickup bed) and they have performed flawlessly. Great rods for that price. Quote
