trevor Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 So which USA rod in the 200 dollar price range would you want? Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Ive got a Falcon Cara and a St. Croix Avid. The Cara blows the Avid out of the water! Quote
WanderLust Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 For $200 I would look for a used G Loomis GLX BCR803... Best rod I've ever fished for bottom contact. Currently I have: (1) Powell Max 683 (1) G Loomis GLX mentioned above (2) St. Croix Avids Cranking & a AVC70MHF (2) Shimano Compres cranking rods (1) Dobyns Champion 704 GLX everyday and twice on Sunday. Amazing rod and can be found in the flea market for a steal. I'm scared to try the NRX. Quote

Flywatersmallie Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 How do you like the Champion? That Champion is a sweet all purpose stick! I have one in the Champion line and 2 of the Savvy series with the same specs. Awesome! Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted July 19, 2011 Super User Posted July 19, 2011 Of those listed I would say the Avid, although I've not fished a Cara, always wanted one. Every instinct I have says go big or go home with the Loomis rods, the lower end is unimpressive and seems over priced, to me atleast. I would honestly look for a sale and get a Dobyns Champion or Daiwa Zillion. The Shimano Cumara is a great rod too but Shimano usually doesn't participate in sales. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 19, 2011 Super User Posted July 19, 2011 G. Loomis IMX series show up in our Flea Market frequently. In excellent shape, these will run $150 - $175, shipped. If you are looking for an "all-around" rod, I suggest the MBR843C or 844C. Quote
WanderLust Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 How do you like the Champion? It's an excellent quality rod (light, balanced, nice components) but no where near as sensitive as the GLX. I think I may have been expecting too much from it. It's has a soft tip though so that makes it fairly versatile. Quote
