Just received an email from www.ohya.com that they were selling citca e series reels for $94 and curados for $133.95 with free shipping. If you can stretch for another $30 I would definitely pick up the curado. I am a pretty frugal guy when it comes to buying equipment and I decided to indulge and go with something that was really nice. With the curado I have not been disappointed at all, and has made me a believer in the statement that you get what you pay for. I bought a curado from ohya last year and they are legit. You will not be disappointed. Getting a $170 reel for $133 is a really good deal and you will be able to keep it for many years with proper care. I am sure the citca is nice as well.

I just wanted to say thanks to all for the advise. I have already learned a lot from this forum.

I ended up getting a 7" medium Vertias rod, Lew's speed spool , 10# Sufix 832 & some Senkos...

I also found a guy here selling a used Citica and will be sending him a MO Today for it .

I'll report back on the new combo in a few days I'm going fishing!!!

The Cabelas Prodigy also is at the price point you are considering and its made by Daiwa. I have a couple of the older grey models made by Daiwa also and they are great reels for the $ as well being right at $100.

I've got an older gray model myself I picked up when Cabela's was closing this model out last year. Sent it for cleaning and bearing upgrade to ABEC5s. Guy who did the work said it responded very well. Well enough that he was going to pick up a couple for guests. However, I have yet to fish it, or even cast it. :( Anyway, the new model is on sale. $100 reel for $70.

New reel looks better, and has more bearings. Should be an improvement over the gray model. May have to pick up another reel that most likely won't get used this year!

Guy's comments about the Cabea's reel after working on it.

"That Cabela’s reel after Polishing the internals is wicked smooth and precise feeling. This reel engages and disengages better then the Advantage 153 HSTA Super tuned model…that’s a 180 dollar reel. The way it engages and disengages it feels much a like a Zillion. I can’t believe it took the mod that well. It helps every reel but it REALLY helped this reel and made it very, very refined feeling. You will notice it the first time you click the thumb bar down and then turn the handle it re-engage it. Also with the end of the spool bar polished it really helped speed up the spool and increase free spool time…A LOT. You are really going to love that reel now. It’s truly amazing what it did for that reel. If I had my eyes closed and didn’t know what reel it was and played with it and was asked how much it cost I would say it’s a reel in the 150-200 price range. The level of refinement the reel has now is awesome and unbelievable at that price point."

Okay...now I've psyched myself out!! Going to have to give this reel a workout next time I'm on the water.

I have a few of these Cabela's reels as well as pro qualifiers, revo s reels, and shimano citica D series.

I personally find the Cabela's reels to be equal to any of the reels listed. The newly redesigned Prodigy reel is also currently on sale for 69.00.
