Follow Up?

What's a good follow up for a jig if even possable. The other day my nephew lost a solid 5lber due to his drag being loose and flipping brush and logs with an UL he thinks its a challenge which is is but he losses 99% of the fish. What would I follow up with to cach the fish I kinda figure they won't bite again after tasting steel already and being fought briefly but on the same note iv also tossed a bass back just to catch the same fish on the next cast so anythings possiable I supose. So what would I follow up with he uses a jig or wacky rig usually I tried the same lures but my way and only landed a 6inch dink lol.

If I miss a fish I'll usually throw a senko back after it. Usually texas rigged or wacky rigged. 2 casts with m follow up bait and then i'll throw the jig back and try and work it the same as before.

Normally, I'd say no way a sore lipped fish would bite.....but I've been proven wrong. Recently. I re-caught mine on the same bait, a t-rigged craw.

I usually have a lot better success throwing a different bait, mostly senko or sliderhead, as a follow up bait.

Senkos for sure, but only if they miss. Sore lipped fish....that's tough.

Yeah usually once they have tasted that steel hook there done I think but everynow and then u catch that fish with alzhiemers that forgot that shiny thing just yanked him out of the water by its face

Normally for LMB 1 strike and they are history, I've had a few that have been very aggressive and come back at the same lure 2 or 3 times, but not often. Peacocks don't run away, they keep coming.

I have caught and seen others catch missed fish, but not many. An wacky unweighted Senko/Senko knock-off is also what I use.

Slightly off topic, it seems to me that while bass may have some short-term memory, not so much long-term. We have caught the same 19" fish three of the last four trips to one of the local strip pits. She has a very distinctive lip injury, but seems to be very healthy otherwise.

I've often had the same bass hit 2 or 3 times, but in every case they were “clean misses”.

In my experience, once the bass gets stuck, it'll promptly lose interest in the lure.

From the angler’s point of view, once you feel the weight of the bass, the odds of a comeback strike are slim to nil.

As for best follow-up lure, I’ve never found any solid pattern. Sometimes the same lure will generate another strike,

other times "any other lure" with a different shape or speed will rekindle a strike,

Iv missed a lot of fish with plastics that never got stuck and made 10 casts getting bit everytime till I either hook it or it wises up. Just last night iv had a fish on loose it leave my bait there without re casting give it a twitch and bam fish on I caught 3 like that last night
