tholmes Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 I wear prescription glasses. I am also know to lose/break sunglasses pretty regular, therefore I use the $20 polarized "fits over" from Walmart. Couldn't handle it if I dumped a pair of $100 shades in the lake! Cliff Me too. I'm pretty tough on sunglasses. When (not if, when) I break a pair or drop 'em in the lake, I can replace them without spending the price of a good baitcasting outfit. Tom Quote

breezy Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 I have just been fishing with whatever sunglasses I have handy, whether it's a cheap $5 pair or some oakleys I wear daily. Would like to pick up some polarized glasses but I don't think there's any way I can justify the price of some costas or oakleys strictly for fishing. Considering buying a pair of the $40 Eye Surrender glasses since I've seen a few good reviews. Does anyone else here happen to have any? Like a lot of people a hook, jig, egg sinker, etc in the eye is my biggest concern. When I was much younger I had a pretty bad eye injury and stayed almost a week in the hospital...talk about scary. I hate wearing a pair of expensive glasses in the boat because I worry so much about the stupid things I lose some of my fishing enjoyment On the other hand, I really don't want to trust my vision to a $5 pair of wal mart specials. Wish there was a little better middle ground with higher end glasses. Quote

Good glasses make a world of difference on the water. Regardless what you wear, get a good pair of polarized glasses, your vision is worth the extra $'s. Quote

I wear Rx glasses for distance. The glasses I have are transition lenses. They block out the sunlight good. Are polarized glasses similar to transition lenses? If not which polarized glasses would work for me? When I don't wear my Rx glasses I wear aviator style sunglasses. So the polarized glasses need to be able to fit over my Rx glasses. Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted July 23, 2011 Super User Posted July 23, 2011 You can get many of the popular brands in prescription through your eye doctor, and your eye insurance may pay for some of it too. I highly recommend Costa Del Mar 580 glass with the green mirror. I cant see my jig alot of the time when i'm fishing and have zero eye strain. EVER. even when driving into the sun. Contrast is amazing with the green mirror too. However, I've heard if you dont want so much contrast and want a more natural (color wise) looking world, go with the blue mirror. However the Blue mirror will be harder to see through in low-light conditions. Costa even offers an aviator style sunglass. However, polarized glasses don't transition. They're the lense color all the time, never switching between clear. However, if you want to keep your regular glasses on, look into a pair of cocoons. I think you'll enjoy a pair of Costa's though, even though you have to switch between regular glasses and the costas a few times a day. Quote
Canga Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 i found some cocoons on sale at a local store, they were like $25, and i was looking for some new sunglasses, no they are not the best, but they are pretty d**n good, especially for the price. i liked them so much i went back and got a pair with amber lenses so im covered all the time. they do let a little light in, but i wear a hat so it doesnt bother me too much. i dont even wear glasses and think they are pretty nice! If the function of the polarized glasses wont work over my Rx glasses, why bother? All my Rx glasses have transition lenses.
