As many of you know I am not a big Abu Garcia Revo series fan, unless its the Skeet Reese which they no longer make unfortunately. Long story short I ended up selling my first generation Revo Premiers since they stared making an annoying sound toward the end of the cast and was told that it was normal, by some BR members, but the sound ended up driving me away from the reel and I sold them. Nevertheless, my love for my Revo Skeet models drove me to another newer generation Premier, but after 4 outings guess what.....the darn thing screeches towards towards the end of the cast cycle, like the OTHER first generation ones. So someone please tell me how to get rid of that annoying sound! Is it the type of bearing used? Also, why did it not make sound when I first used it for the first 4 trips, just like my other Premier. Also have noticed casting distance is down when compared to like new. Oiled bearings using Shimano Oil on light drop to no avail  I am primarily using the reel to cast lipless cranks a country mile and casting like KVD on crack to cover water. So the cast count is high.

Since the noise is most evident at the end of the cast you may be hearing the brakes. A deep cleaning and proper lube may solve this problem as well as the decreased casting distance. Revos in general respond very well to being serviced even out of the box.

What type of Brakes does your revo have? I have a Browning Citori that does kind of the same thing. It has RTB brakes. If I turn the brakes on 1 it doesn't happen unless I am really casting hard.

I keep my brakes 100% off, but have tried all settings and is still makes annoying sound.

At least my Shimano and Daiwa actually take a reasonable amount of time before they need servicing, go figure! Prepare for another reel than, as soon as I get back my Zillion and Shimano Metanium. Brakes are for tree catchers B)

I'm not sure its the brakes, They are spring loaded on the Premier AFAIK. Being spring loaded they should retract at the end of the cast. I'm betting its a dry bearing? I lube my spool bearings(on my stx) with a drop of oil after every outing and work it in. Then wipe off the excess. The infini spool also contacts the pinion support shaft. You will see a little dimple on handle side of the spool. I put a small amount of light drag grease. Use a tooth pick or tiny screw driver. I plan to highly polish both the spool dimple and the pinion support shaft once I do my year end service. My STX reel is brand new this season.

Let me know if this helps?

I agree 100%. We have found this is usually the problem on all of the Revo 2 piece spool support systems that start making noise after a few outings. Not sure polishing the 2 friction points is a good idea thought (because of tolerances).

Tight Lines All! :fishing1:

After a few outings? I must be the luckiest ABU user on the planet ... at least on the forum! I've got 4 Premiers, 2 for a season and a half and another 2 for a season. Except for a drop of oil on the spool bearings every once in a while on the spool bearings, there's no other maintenance that's been done.

Lubing a reel after every outing is not my idea of what I should be getting with a "high end" reel! This is my THIRD ABU REVO PREMIER and its going on the third time with same issue on this particular model, THREE, not a fluke, but THREE times with a repeatable result. I am not doing anything unusual, but casting lipless cranks from 1/2 to 3/4 ounces countless times per outing and this was my fourth time using it. Going to see if I can record it and post the video up, after that its off to the flee market for a respectable reel from Shimano or Daiwa. Nevertheless, the Skeet Reese models I have are holding up and casting a country mile just like the Zillion and Curados.

If you own a high end Daiwa and YOU ARE NOT oiling the spool bearings after every outing, YOU ARE NOT following maintenance procedure per User's Manual.

LMAO!!!!

I bet you bought my returned Premiers. My 1st Premier souded horrible towards the end of the cast. I exchanged it for another, and, it too, screetched at the end of the cast.

The screetching is NOT normanl. I sent the 2nd back and got the 3rd. I've had this one now since they first came out and it has worked flawlessly.

I cannot, for the life of me, remember what ABU said the problem was. I posted the problem on here WAYYYYY back then, but have no idea where to look for the thread.

My Premiers haven't screeched at me, I don't fish cranks often, so maybe that has something to do with it. My fishing buddy has Premiers also and no complaints from him about screeching.

As per Zillion manual you are 100% correct, also need to use the specially formulated oil on spool bearings only. As a contrast the Team Daiwa Advantage reels have no statements on frequency in their manuals.

Quantum also recommends using HOT Sauce after heavy use and/or 1 a month. Ask the resident experts their opinion of HOT Sauce and its use.

Given if I fish a my gear hard and/or notice looseness, difference in sound or performance I add either Shimano or Daiwa OEM oil to the spool bearings and/or worm gear if needed, but after every outing I think its excessive, no I am not an engineer and have had NOTHING to substantiate my statements with other than what experience has shown with various reels.

I did the same thing, but gave up after two attempts on the first generation models, this is the latest generation one and slightly different than the first generation. Point is that it is a known issue and I am surprised that the new updated model has the same issue.

That's one of the reasons I moved from Daiwa to Abu. It gets a bit tedious when you're fishing 7 reels twice a week + various ones and twos a few other times during the week.

I experienced the same issue with one Premier and one Winch. I removed the cast control cap, one drop of oil on the spool end and the squeal was gone. Did some of the oil make it to the bearing ? I don't know. But it worked for me. My SX's and STX's never had this issue. Wierd.

Checking the Abu manual states to clean and lube after each use. Also states failure to do so will void the warranty. I have fished my STX hard for 2 to 3 day weekends before doing the clean and lube with no issues. The average user could go longer between lubes. But if you fish them hard, I think most reel makers will recommend proper lubing. I get about the same use from my Shimano E7 as the STX. My Shimano will tell me it needs lube just as the STX. A dry bearing will squak no matter what brand reel its in!

Are you comparing $500 plus dollar Diawa's to a less than $300 Abu?

Last time I checked a Zillion ($260) is in the same category as a Premier ($230). So your assertion is inaccurate.

I have a feeling its not a bearing it has to do something with the braking system towards end of cast, not sure if the premier uses a different system than other Revo models. I went through the same issues with the the older version Premiers, I remember I returned the first one to the factory got a new one and experienced same issue and sold it. Why don't my Skeet Reese models do it or my friends SX and S models, i am willing to bet its the braking system. I did oil bearings though with Abu lube.

AFAIK, The only part of the brake system that effects the end of the cast is the magnetic part. There is no metal to metal contact. But as the spool is torqued towards the magnets, There is a chance for the spool to rub the metal magnet sheild. But that chance is pretty rare. It should leave visable scratches/scrapes on the shield or spool.

Personally I think Abu's supplied oil isn't all that dandy. I would try something else. Maybe some of the other members can recommend something to try?

The problem is the spool, not the brakes. The Skeet, S and SX models don't have the Infini Spool II™, the STX and Premier do.
