philsoreel Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 A new 8 strand offering from PP. Can't wait to get my hands on this. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted July 15, 2011 Super User Posted July 15, 2011 It's good to see they jumped on the wagon. Quote
midnighthrasher Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 I want it now!!!! The colors look awesome. Definetly like the timber brown color. Quote
Fat-G Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 I'll try it. I really like Fireline, but I'll give this a shot. Quote
Midnight Splash2 Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 They should of kept the moss green color. I don't care for the brown and aqua green. Another disappointment from the Shimano family. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 15, 2011 Super User Posted July 15, 2011 That's some spensive line! Quote

I really liked the moss green color too but i think that the brown will be good for my waters. I liked the red alot also Quote

collegefishing12 Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 What is the benefit of the 8 strands compared to the original power pro? Sorry this may seem like a dumb question but I'm not huge on braided line -- although I plan an switching a few flipping setups here soon to use braid and fluoro leaders. Thanks in advance! Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 15, 2011 Super User Posted July 15, 2011 My guess is it's quite a bit smoother and quieter going through the guides. Quote
BrASSmonkey Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 The hihger thread/strand count changes the weave, making the line more round and smooth. This changes how the braid contacts the guide insert from a hack saw to a fine tooth saw. The rounder thread is supposed to dig into itself much less on a spool. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 15, 2011 Super User Posted July 15, 2011 LOL, a saw blade is EXACTLY what a line company wants to use as ad hype. Quote
BrASSmonkey Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 LOL, a saw blade is EXACTLY what a line company wants to use as ad hype. LOL. It's a good thing I do not represent them or make ads eh? It was just the best way I could describe it lol. More strands = more frequent but smaller ridges in the line, kind of like a finer tooth saw lol. Official disclaimer: most guide insert materials used in production rods are hard enough to withstand the sawing of your braided line. Quote
Skunked in DR Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 That's some spensive line! I'm not seeing a price anywhere. What's the expected cost for a 300yd spool? Quote
BrASSmonkey Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 I'm not seeing a price anywhere. What's the expected cost for a 300yd spool? Check out Tackle Warehouse. $20 for 150 yds $35 for 300 yds Quote
baluga Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 Power Pro Super Slick Line 20lb 300yd Aqua Green $39.99 Sufix 832 Braid Lo-Vis Green 20lb 300yd $34.99 Hmmmnn..Both are 8 strands and claim they are rounded and smooth but the other one is $5 more. I think i have to wait till someone have used both and concludes that PP Slick is worth the extra $5, cause i'm pretty much satisfied with the smoothness of 832. Quote
collegefishing12 Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 Thanks for clarifying. One last question: Since this line is "softer," wouldn't this also aide in knot tying for leaders? My guess is that the the more harsh line (original power pro) would not be as susceptible to holding its form when tied with fluoro? Quote
baluga Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 the 8 strand improvement is not really for knot joining advantages it is more for smoother casting and retrieving. Just use Alberto knot for joining leader with braid and you don't have to worry about knot slipping or bulky joint regardless of braid brands. Quote
21farms Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 actually, this line was ready to go last year but was held up because of a lawsuit over potential patent infringement regarding the 8-weave braiding process (from sufix no doubt). i hope they keep power pro "classic" around too. Quote
philsoreel Posted July 15, 2011 Author Posted July 15, 2011 I hope they've kept their diameter to strength ratio super small like the regular PP. If they have somehow just taken the old line and made it smoother and quieter without changing any of it's positive attributes...that would be an awesome line. I'm interested in seeing that timber brown in the water. Quote
Stasher1 Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 I'll give it a shot when/if I can find some in a clearance bin somewhere. Until then, my old-fashioned yellow Power Pro will do just fine. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted July 16, 2011 Super User Posted July 16, 2011 So.....is this going to share the characteristics of dental floss like the other 8-strands I've tried? Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted July 16, 2011 Super User Posted July 16, 2011 If the diameter of the new line is the same as the old line in the same pound test, that means each thread of the weave is smaller. That in itself would make it smoother. A super line cannot damage a rod guide, the line material is a plastic. The line guide grooving comes from silica (sand) particles suspended in the water that gets embedded in the line. Basically your dirty line cuts your rod guides. That can happen with mono too but just takes longer since the solid line cannot hold has much "dirt". Quote

Jaheff Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 Darn it, I had it in my hands on Sunday and didn't put two and two together that its the new stuff. I picked it up and showed it to my brother in law, and laughed cause it matches his Shimano terez rod...ugh I thought it was hollow ace. Quote
