John G Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 Is the TE model $150.00 better than the regular B model and would the 100 series of either model be effective in serving double duty for bass in freshwater and speckled trout, redfish and snook in salt water. Actually, in salt water, you never know what you might hook so the same question for the 200 series Calcutta. Thanks Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 14, 2011 Super User Posted July 14, 2011 I own two CTE200GT and one CTE100GT. They might be my favorite reels, but they are my strongest for sure. I use them for bass fishing, striper and bull reds in the Gulf. One of the reels is ten years old and performs as well or better than the five and three years olds. I have never had an issue of any kind. Stong, smooth, silent and reliant. Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 14, 2011 Super User Posted July 14, 2011 I have two Calcutta CT100As, one Calcutta CT50A, & two Cardiff CDF100As; I use all five for both freshwater & inshore saltwater fishing with absolutely no problems ever. One CT100A & the CT50A are 10-12 years old; I’ve caught Bonito in the 30 pound class range on the CT100A. With that being said the most popular reel along the Louisiana/Texas Gulf coast for inshore saltwater fishing is the Citica 200E. Quote
John G Posted August 2, 2011 Author Posted August 2, 2011 Thanks for the reply's. I ended up getting a new Calcutta 100B and I put it on a Loomis MBR 844C. I like this one so much that my next reel will be a Calcutta 50B. Quote
baluga Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 yeah, the 100 size is good for both fresh and inshore saltwater application, but the 50 might be a tad limited to fresh just because of capacity. Although you can always use braid 20#s, workable as long as you don't get hook up with other big specie while fishing for snook or redfish . JMHO. Quote
