Midnight Splash2 Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 I'm interested to hear more about these. They have Big O written all over them. 1 Quote
Fat-G Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 I wonder if they are priced above the Extremes? I've heard so. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 Dang...I just saved enough for and Extreme, but now I gotta keep saving for this one! Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted July 15, 2011 Super User Posted July 15, 2011 Looks like a different paint job on a Savvy or a Champion to me. Quote
Fat-G Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 Looks like a different paint job on a Savvy or a Champion to me. Eric, I'm 99% sure it is more expensive than the Extreme, and more sensitive. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 15, 2011 Super User Posted July 15, 2011 I wonder if they are priced above the Extremes? I've heard so. Nothing marketed toward the ABA - the average weekend angler - would be set in that price point. More likely its in the value segment of their line. Quote
Midnight Splash2 Posted July 15, 2011 Author Posted July 15, 2011 I was told by a Dobyns pro staffer that they would be showcasing a new series rod at ICAST. He said he had been fishing a proto and it was lighter and more sensitive then the extreme. He also said it was very pricey and should hit the market around November. This is the only new series they have showcased at ICAST as far as I know. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 15, 2011 Super User Posted July 15, 2011 If that rod is more than an Extreme, I'd be disappointed in all the "common" hardware. it has all the appointments of cheapo Powell. Quote
Midnight Splash2 Posted July 15, 2011 Author Posted July 15, 2011 I agree. I was looking forward to seeing this new series more then any other new product this year. I kept trying to guess what the new color scheme would be and how they would out do the "bling" on the extreme. When I finally saw it I was disappointed. It just didn't add up to what I was told. A camo rod that would be priced over the extreme would probably not sell to well. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 15, 2011 Super User Posted July 15, 2011 It's gonna be priced in the Saavy range.....saying it now. Unless proceeds from the sales go to some charity, like the Heroes on the Water rods from TFO. Quote

Fat-G Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 John, I don't know how you do it, but you are right again. It's a repainted Savvy. Quote
MarkM Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 It "looks" cheaper than a Savvy. I have a 735C and while not a Champion or Extreme it still looks like an elegant rod. This does not. The tan reel seat looks like it came from a Cracker Jack Box. It's F-ugly!! Instead of releasing this, Dobyns would have been better to release a Savvy line of crankbait rods that a large majority of his customers are clamoring for. Quote

Next year. This year there were several new champions, a handful of extremes, and micro guided Savvy rods shown. I was hoping for the Savvy crank rods to come out this year as well. I can see the mindset for offering micro guides though. It's what's "popular" right now. Quote
R520dvx Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 This rod is a Savvy made to ber sold through the ABA to their members. It has nothing to do with the new high end rod coming out. Quote
Deb Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 For those of you that like em and want some, they will be available (this just out from Gary Dobyns)to the general public. It will probably be fall. Pricing will be set soon but will not be champion or extreme pricing. So, for those of you that like em, get ready. For those of you that don't like em.........go spend ur $$$$ on what you like. Isn't it great to live in a country where we get to choose 1 Quote
Deb Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 These appear to be Gary Dobyns answer to the NRX. WRONG!!!! The ABA Coalition rods have nothing to do with the NRX. There is a new rod line being added but not yet. The ABA rods are much more charactistic of the SAVVY series (yes, I fish Dobyns and have all three classes of these rods....the Savvy, the Champion and the Champion Extreme) They are AWESOME rods, hands down my favorite I've ever used, including the GLX's I used for 3 yrs! BassThumb Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Yep, Dobyns are my favorite rods, too. Do you know what kind of price tag will be on the ABA rods? Quote
Deb Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 Yep, Dobyns are my favorite rods, too. Do you know what kind of price tag will be on the ABA rods? The price will be somewhere close to the Savvy series, and I'm sure....very worth the money Quote
