piscicidal Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 This is the park on 21st ave (between Oakland Park Blvd and Commercial), correct? That is the C13 canal. I own a rental house on that canal...it is actually brackish water there (east of the spillway) but does have bass in it. It has jack, snook and tarpon in it as well. Those may be the big fish you are seeing. The spillway for that canal is just west of the park. When that spillway is open (usually after some heavy rains) you can wear yourself out catching big snook/tarpon. Quote
headhunter954 Posted July 15, 2011 Author Posted July 15, 2011 the canal is on south gate bvld not sure where 21 street is it passed rock island rd out west a little but might be the same canal Quote
Louiem Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 The one he is talking about is in the city of Oakland Park, Both Cities have parks with that name.......two different bodies of water though the canal is on south gate bvld not sure where 21 street is it passed rock island rd out west a little but might be the same canal Quote
GLADES Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 Are you talking about the C14 canal? It runs parallel to southgate blvd. Is the park right across the street from the bowling alley next to university drive? Quote

GLADES Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 I don't fish the C14 much since they put up the speed limit. The canal is kind of boring, and the ramps are difficult for my rig. If you do catch some of those fish you are looking at, post up some pics. Quote

gar-tracker Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 Thank you, I try to be helpful. I'm just busting my own chops. When I fished those canal many of the homes were just starting out being built. It was a wonderland. That's way before I started running around in the Glitter Wagons. Quote
GLADES Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 I remember those days as a teenager in the 70's. We used to launch a canoe from the dirt road that runs along the canal on the coral springs side. Before the sawgrass expressway was built, we would paddle down to the west end of the C14 and fish the spill way. Then haul the canoe over the levee into the east perimeter of sawgrass fish camp. I remember a few droughts and we used to load the canoe with decent(3-6lb)sized bass, huge bluegills, and huge gars as well as bow fin. Nowadays, I have a difficult time launching my Ranger from the c14 public ramps. I have to back up until my truck rear tires are on the slippery stuff. Kind of a hassle. Plus I got stopped my the Margate coast guard for throwing a wake. Got a complete shake down. I guess one of these days I will give the c14 another try, but I would rather fish at Lox. Quote
