3 Inch Senkos

Has anyone ever tried 3 inch senkos ? I'm thinking of trying them Saturday in my tournament to get a small limit quickly. It seems like a definate way to get bites.............

Yamamoto 3" Senko's and hand poured knock off's have been popular for years for western tournament anglers in shad colors. Drop shot is a common presentation using the 3" Senko's.

What size hook and line should I be using with? I've been using either a #4 or #2 split shot/drop shot hook and have been wacky rigging the 3 inch senko on them. I think I'm using the wrong size hook, becaus I'm losing a lt of bites, but getting at least 25 bass to bite it every day I go out.

I use a long shank gold hook like the ones you would use for bluegills and bream.

The 3" Senko is a dynamite drop shot bait. Especially fished wacky style, when the larger bass go deep this time of the year. I use a rootbeer orange w/green flake color (not sure what number that is off hand) to resemble the small perch forage that frequent depths >25' around here. I only use a Gamakatsu drop shot hook, in size #2, which works very well for all my drop shotting.

Since these baits are so small (thin, that is, compared to a standard 5" Senko), I'd suggest using a small section of clear, heat shrink tubing around the middle for hooking them wacky style. This will make the baits last for several large bass before having to be replaced.

Also try the 3" Sluggo nose hooked. These baits have a wounded baitfish action that just cannot be beat!

Well, It seems like wacky rigging it with a 1/0 hook makes the 3 inch senko fall a lot faster and differently compared to using a Gamakatsu Drop shot hook, I think i may try a trokar TK150 Dropshot hook with it.

This is usually my bailout bait when fishing clear water during those windless high pressure bluebird days. I like to thread it on a 1/16 oz Gopher Tackle Mushroomhead ( they have several hook options, I use a small #6 Gamakatsu hook). This falls with a nice death spiral and with the small hook it's fairly weedless. I throw it with 6lb Floro and launch it with a 7'4" Dobyns ML spinning rod.

i have caught quite a few big smallies on 3" stick baits, bps stik-o is pretty good, i rig them on a jig head, and fish love them.

a friend of mine catches most of his fish on them, everything from 10" gills, to nice smallies, to a 45" musky...everything eats stick baits!

What colors do well for the 3" Senko for smallies?

ive done well on white, white and chartruese and white and pink...limited success on like a pb&j or crawish colors, ocassionally will get them on all black, but i dont try it often, as i figure a leech type bait would work better in that instance

My best colors have been Green Pumpkin/ Cream laminate for overcast days with Watermelon Senko's & Ozark Smoke Yum Dingers for clear skies. That said whatever colors work for you on bigger stick baits will certainly do well on the smaller size.

Yeah, I usually do better around my waters on Junebug and black/blue Senkos, but no color pattern like that for the 3" ones.

How do you get more Casting Distance with 3 inch senkos?

I am using a 6'10" medium spin with 8# line. Casts pretty well.

I tried a 7' medium heavy rod and had difficulty casting both with 12 and 10 pound line, but I will try 6 pound as well.... Also, What type of cast do you make with the 3 inch senko to make it go the absolute furthest and would adding a 1/16 ounce slip sinker to a wacky rigged 3 inch senko hurt the action of the baits fall?

I usually cast at a 3/4 angle and as far as a weight goes not sure. I prefer the senko to be unweighted, but there are times when you need to get it down faster then the unweighted free fall.
